Being thoroughly convinced that the dis sensions among all the political parties in this county, makes this God-given opportu nity for self respecting Republicans, both white and colored, to assert their rights and independence of the notorious and disgrace ful bossism'' of the existing management of tne Kepuohcan party which has a registered vote of 2,500, take this time and method of announcing myself as a straight Republican candidate for the office of Sheriff of Camber land County. I call on and ask all honest and true Republicans who love their party to vote and give me their support. If elected, I will pledge myself to treat all citizens aliko, regardless of party or politics. Respectfully, Oct. 20, 1896. DANIEL CARTER. Fine Mountain Beef, Pork and Sausage CONSTANTLY ON HAND L. The County candidates of all parties and of no party, twenty odd in number, ad dressed a gathering of fifty voters at Man chester yesterday. Three fourths of the audience was composed of colored men. .who listened attentively, but displayed no . entnusiasm at all, not even when their white republican bosses waved the red flag in their faces. For the first time since they opened the campaign the candidates indulged in a joint discussion, each speak er being allowed 20 minutes. The time of each was mostly taken up in explaining "where he was at," and so the debate did not wax warm at all. It was simolv a Dre- v i liminary to the great battles that may be expected to make tho county tins with partisan cries, from Mink's Creek to Chick- .en Swamp, from now until the day of election. But all jokiner aside, there ar a number of good speakers amone tho candidates, and things will no doubt be j interesting from now on. Hurrah fa Cy. Watson. Mrs. M.
