Oh ! children, say! will Christmas clay Fill you with glee or dark dismay? Have you been good and brought in wood? For if you have 'tis understood , That Santa Claus and all good pas Have daily watched and read the straws; And they'll delight on Monday night To make good children glad and bright. Great loads of toys for girls and boys Will cause a thousand Christmas joys. While cold w inds blow across the snow Okt Santa and his team must go. It used to seem he had a team, ' 1-ui since came days of gasoline, He nuw may ride with joy and pride In auto cars with wife t'eside. Oi, well he may, this very day, Have found a faster, better way Than reindeer sled, or auto bed; He may have new aircraft intsead, So he can fly all through the sky And quickly find the low and high. But he will come with doll and drum To bring glad tiding unto some. So watch your ways and win some praise And then enjoy the holidays. Make mother glad and please your dad And do not make your teacher sad. Do all your chores, outside, indoors', And do not loaf around the stores; Be good and meek each day this week For Santa Claus knows where to seek. SNOW STORM FATAL TO KEPUB. In connection with this occasion a Paiish meeting will also be held, and every member of the Parish is re quested to be present. Oysters will be served during the evening and matters pertaining to the church will je considered. j Permit me to congratulate you upon the consolidation of the two papers. Your Christmas ipsue is quite attractive. It is gratifying to see that you give considerable space to the inter est of the school The home paper is the most effective channel for ad vancing home enterprises. It is evi dent that you are a sincere friend of the school and are trying to pro mote its interests. Few people real ize the importance of the public school. Therefore every true patriot will be an enthusiastic supporter of the institutions of learning for the masses. My work here during almost a half year has been very pleasant. The citizens, as well as the teachers and pupils, are loyally backing my administration. They have contrib- ui ed in cash and pledges, besides the '.axes, more than $400 to the support of the school. We have eight grades below the high school and four years ot' high school work. We have rooms equipped for domestic science, labor atory for science and agriculture, and special teachers for these sub jects. Public schools in the future will necessarily conforni to the needs of the masses, and after that, do the best possible for the lew who will enter higher institutions of learning. Wishing you and Waynesville a happy Christmas and a p.operous year during 1918, I am very cordially yours, John D. Everett, Elizabethton, Tenn. W W. EDWARDS GOES TO FRANCE FOR Y. M. C. A.
