White, Mr. and Mrs. Will Morrow, Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Beach and others at tended the Sunday School Con -vention at Grapevine on last Sat urday and Sunday. Mr. Harold who is conducting - the revival on Walnut Creek . went home for a day or - so but returned on Tuesday and is con- "tinueing the revival with great acceptance. 1 -1 Some little repairs were neces " sary on the pump of the Madison Power and Light Company last week owing to the disconnecting of the pipe in the well. ' The house of Dr. W. J. Weav f; erhas been entirely torn down and the lumber sent to Leicester. The old landmark in town makes quite a lack in its absence. r Mr. Hornbuckleof the Method ist Church will return this week from his vacation and will resume ' the services that have been inter rupted during this time, ' Miss Lilly Warner returned from Hot "r Springs( this week where she has been substituting for Warren Davis in the' Citizens Bank at that place. , The doctors are quite busy now with the people that are sick. The continued : hot spell has brought , on the - accompanying 'complaints and the result is ; that the doctors are busy. ; . Marshall schools will begin on .the 31st. of August., Tliw is Monday and will be about the time that the School commenced last year. The school is ' begun at this time because all the other High School' begin on tnia date and continue for 8 months. " School bigins soon and then we cannot have them at all. Mr. J. H. Mackey has purchas ed a half interest in the livery stable of Z. G. Sprinkles & Co Mr. R. R. Roberts and wife were visiting on Baileys Branch last week. Mr. Ernest Roberson of West Va., has been visiting at his fath ers at Skyland this week. Mr. E. B. Gilbert of The News-Record went to Sanford, N C.. and Pitsboro, to be gone this week...7 Mrs. Laura Davis who has been visiting Mrs. W. E. Finley has gone to Montreat for a short stay. . Mr, Jere Franklin was in Ashe ville on Tuesday looking over the automobiles preparatory to buy ing one. French Broad Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church meets at Walnut this Fall with the church at that place. ' Rev. W. R. Beach of the Bap tist Church was in Hot Springs over Sunday filling his regular appointment at that place. Miss Agnes Patton who has heen at Little Pine for a year has moved to the cottage at Walnut Spridgs. :. " ,' .A Miss Annie Eller, of Weaver- ville.has been visiting her " sister Mrs. Everett Tweed since the closing of the Institute, t Mr. Zade Sprinkles has opened the barn near the railroad to ac comodate the largo trade that has come to the livery stable. ' : Quite a number of singing classes are busy just now and are doing good work and 'promise to give us good music in the Sab bath Schools, this winter. We know of one at Caney Fork un der the direction of Mr. Riddle and another at Anderson Branch and. two or three in ' the ' Sandy Mush section. We hope - that many more may be organized and that tho singing may continue. Miss Agnes McElroy returned from her visit tho' first of thi: week. : , . , ' Capt. Steve Brown, one of the Highway CooimissioneVs was up from Hot Spring Saturday. r Last Sunday tho rain which fell was accompained by hail but not very heavy, but cooled' off the atmosphere some. ' The Evan Worley house at the town limits is about compleated and is oije of the best looking houses in the town. Mr. U o forth is in charge of the c o n struction of the house. Prayer meetings have been held in the different churches of the town some of the mornings of this week for the revival that is in progress at the Lower Church. Soon the boys and girls that have mado our town so pleasant this ' summer . with their bright faces will take their ways to the different schools where they have been attending during the past years. Just one more month of vacation and then hard work for them. Death of Richard Franklin. Mr.. Richard Franklin of Big Laurel died at his home on last Saturday. Mr. Franklin was nown thoughout the county and especially, among the business people of the county. He was one among our best country merchants and made a success of his business. His death was caused bytcancer of the stomach The friends of Mr. Franklin will earn of his death with a" keen snse of regret and sorrow. We extend our sympathies to the bereft family. PARDON NOTICE.
