Robed in white uniform of the knights of the kn klux Man five Mnen vhcno identity was concealed behind the white ro bes even extending over their white he:irh, vijitrl the Calva ry Baptist church i.i West Ashe ville during the Sunday even ing service and donated $25.00 to the church. 1 The five men approached the church in an automobile and at 8:15 o'clock entered. Then inter rupted the service as they walk ed silently -down the aisle to the alter and presented an envelope to the pastor, Rev. J. B. Grice. The envelope requested that the inclosed letter . be read to the congregation, and while the klansrnen stood at attention, Rev. Mr. C! rice read the letter, pledging the support of the kni ghts of the kii klux klan to the cause of religion . R'pv. Mr. Grice stated last night that the service was in terrupted just as he . was ready to read the scripture and he had no'previous notice that the klansmen would visit the church! He said the money will be added to the fund for the new building. The. knights 6? the ku klux klan are affiliated with several other organizations in staging a series of mass meetings w i t h "Americanism' as the topic, the first being held yesterday after noon at the auditorium, ;with Representative Will D.Upshaw as the speaker, During his ad dress the Georgia representative referred to the manner in which the Imperial Wizzard of the se cret order had been placed un der investigation at Washington and how it had b e e n' halted when ho offered a resolution asking for an investigation of all secret fraternal organiza tions. SUNDAY The Fifth Sunday meeting of the French Broad Aseociation Convened in its April session Saturday and Sunday the 29th and 30th of April at Paint Gap Church. Rev. S. C. Roberts was Chairr man and ,Rev. S. S. Ponder, Secretary, the opening exercises consisted of choice music by the local choir and scripture reading and prayer by Rev. S. C. Briggs. At 10:30 the program was taken up and under general head of "Quickening" the following subjects were ably and pointedly discussed viz. 1. Consecrated bible study by Bro. W. R White. 2. Regular attendance on re ligious services, by Rev. J. A . Corn, v 3. Godly Conservation, Rev. S. L Ponder. 4. Prayer, Rev. Perry Sprinkle. .' 5. Bible Giving, Rev. R. H. Morgan. 6. Bring not only hearers but doers of the word, by Rev. J, ' C. Pipes. Every one of these topics were powerfully discussed to a prayer ful congregation Dinner was bountifully and liberally served to the congrega tion at the homes of the breth ren and sisters of the church. At 1 :30 the entire congregation returoe&tothecmufch and were pleasingly entertained by music. The program was resumed and the topic. ' 1. To the church losing its grip on humanity, was pqintedly discussed by W. P. .Tervis. 2. Enlarging the power of our Sunday Schools by Bro. Hill. 3. The pastors duty to preach the doctrine of his church at least once a year, by Rey. VV. R. Luns ford, followed by Rev Tom Hens ley, also in, a spiritual talk. The subjects like those of the morning were ably and earnestly discussed to the edification and enjoyment of the congregation. At night Rev. Roy Morgan preached a strong sermon to an attentive congregation at the conclusion of which an old hand shaking was gone through with amid much spiritual manifesta tion. .' 1 Sunday morning th e choir rendered most excellent music and Rev. C. C. Gregory conduct ed devotional services..' , The program was resumed. The Sunday School work was discus sed by W. P. Jervis followed by Bro. Hensley. An address to the unconverted was ably made by Dr. George Whorton. At 11:00 o'clock Rev. L. C. Roberts preached an able and im pressive sermon on Three Re sponsibilities. 1st. The prea-hfrs.' 2nd. The hearers and 3rd. The: Lord. This closed . the exercises and the congregation dispersed be lieving that it was one of the best Fifth Sunday meetings ever held in the Old French Broad Association." , ,. . The liberality of the Pint Gap brethren and ' Bisters was un bounded and the music unsur passed while the speeches on the different topics were all that could be desired. , S, L. PONDER . ; Secretary.' rOlEYSIODIIEYPniS REPORT OF FIFTH ' MEETING Madison County Summer School For Teachers will be Held la The Public School Building la The Town of Marshall Juue 19th, July 28th The County Summer School for Madison County teachers will be held in Marshall from June 19, to July 28. The purpose of the County Summer School is to in crease the efficiency of teacher of limited training and experi ence, and to build up ideals and ' a moral tone which will be re flected in their lives and activi ties in the community in which they teach, : f 1 Who should attend? 1. : Pros pective teachers coming into the ranks of the teaching profession who have completed at least two full years of high school work. Applicants who have not com-. pleted two full years of high ' school work will be admitted ; by passing an entrance examination on English Composition, Arith metic, and United States Hif- tory. Those unable to pass this examination may take the pu- paratory course. 2. Holders t f Second-grade Certificates , wl o are unable to presnt a statement showing completion, of two full years of high school work will be admitted by passing the entrtr.ee examination.- 3. Holders f Provisional B, Provisional A, ar d One-year Temporary Certificates should attend, v . . ; may attend either a County Surr -mer School or a . State Summer , school: 1. Graduates of stand ard high schools, 2. Holders tf Provisional Elementary Certifi cates, 3. Holders of Provisional Elementary Certificates, of class A or class B. The County Summer School does not give any credit toward raising a standard Certificate to a higher class, only renews it.. In order to secure credit for rais-' ing B ieruiicaie it is uecesoiw y to attend a State Summer School, All prospective or Second-grace teachers who present a statement showing two full years of high school work, or who pass the en trance examination, will be en titled to a Provisional B Certifi cate on completion of the Sum mer School work. Judge Shaw spoke over half an hour on law and order and the duties of ordained of ficers. He said that he had been all over the state and that no where could better or more ef ficient officers be found than in Henderson. Madison and Bur combe Counties. .
