They know business houses impress people that a spirit of faro grese and sense of the artistic possess the inhabi tants of such a community and they , naturally wish to become citizens. The pamt on a" house gradually fades from day to day so that the own er of the house fails to notice the difference. It is said that a frog placed in a vessel of cold water can be boiled to death by gradually heating the water, for the reason, that the difference of the temperature of the swater at any moment is so slightly different from what it - was the moment before that there is never a moment when danger seems imminent. The pamt on a house looks so nearly like it did the day before that it is hard to arrive at a time- when painting must be renewed. But the stranger or visitor sees the difference afid one of the provinces of a newspaper is to observe such conditions and call attention to them. It is reported to us that the steps leading up to the school house in the town of Marshall are dangerous for ingress and egress of the children and that some two or three have beon in jured. We recommend that the Board of Education take some action to eliminate this dangerous feature. , , We find the condition of the County Chain Gang camD on Little Pine in No. 7 township, to be very satisfactory, or as srood as might be expected at such a camp of this kind. " Editor News-Record : - " The world is changing every day. The dawn of every day finds the world a little differ ent from what it was the day before. These changes are so small' that a lot of us do not notice them. The same holds true of states, counties, and mu nicipalities. The condition that prevailed 25 years ago would not meet the needs of our county today. Each new day brings forth new conditions that require new i deas to meet them. Just take the school system in our coun ty. Going back 25 years ago. I can see the little one-room log schoolhou8e I went to. Today there stands in its stead a mag nificent frame building with a graded school. Quite a con trast, Js it not? With all our developments in schools and roads in ' Our county, we still . have an economic situation that is driving our progressive citi-" zens to more live and growing . communities. . The greatest need of our county, is a larger - financial income to the people of Madison, . which ; will enable them to take Care of the, heavy burden of taxes they are now carrying.! If the; county com- . . missioners have the jower. . I would suggest they exempt any - industry from taxes for a peri- - od of 10 years that wilt locate in our county. We have the , -same. population we had fifteen years ago. t we cannot stand still. ; We must go forward or backward, .and may we-go for ward. ; If there is anything that i is reactionary m our beloved county, I truly hope its head " will be ground off with the wheels of progress and its body trampled in the dust by the . feet of the militant thousands that are marching to the new day of prosperity and a better laaaison County. -i 1 ' ... . .V 1 ."''
