THE DEATHLESS ROSE
COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT
Edited by O. S. DILLARD

By DOUGLAS MALLOCH
"Leave but one rose of all my garden,
And then I could be well content.
But winter comes, the highways harden,
And summer's joy is past and spent.
My garden fills with drifted snows,
Without one rose."
But has not summer something left you,
Though aukmn comes, though petals fall?
No winter evsr quite bereft
You had the memory, after all,
Of roses when the spring was fled,
The roses dead.
In every life, in every meadow,
Some memory of deathless rose,
Blooms on. Ah, yes, we have the shadow
When down the west the sunset goes,
Yet, time leaves something in the heart,
Although we part.

.,-The; Board appointed Jonas
CT.: Chandler to fill the unex
pired term of Dan T. Haynie
who has moved away. Mr.
Chandler has had a great deal
of experience in public affairs,
serving on the Board of Coun
ty Commissioners for a number
of years; part of the time as
chairman. Mr .Chandler is an
enthusiastic supporter of the
public schools, having done
much for the upbuilding of the
school at Walnut. While we
regret to lose Mr. Haynie who
was an exceedingly good mem
ber of the Board we are glad
that a man of Mr. Chandler's
experience and ability has been
placed in his place.
The parent-teachers of the
Marshall school have organized
for the year's work. It elect
ed Mrs. Guy V. Roberts as
president. It will under her a
ble leadership be able to do
much for the betterment of the
school. It is always a source
of pleasure to see these organi
zations in the school and com
munity. More good has been
accomplished through live or
ganizations of this kind than
can be estimated. We feel sure
that the Association at Mar
shall will measure up to the
best, and that much can be
done by it for tho betterment of
the school.
