25, qwmmenoement activities were
launched at Spring Creek. The play,
"Ghostly Fingers", was a mystery
drama, under the direction of Mr.
and Mrs. T. P. Burgess and was pre
sented to a highly enthusiastic audi
ence. . The characters were admira
bly suited for their parts and the act
ing was superb.
On Sunday the Senior class and
faculty made a tour through Norrls
Dam, Knoxville, the Smoky Mountain
Park and the Cherokee Indian Reser
vation. On Saturday, May 2, the Senior
class will entertain the Junior class
with a picnicsupper, at the Recrea
tion Park, and a theatre party that
night in Asheville.
Sunday, May 3, Mr. Wayne Peek,
of Mars Hill will preach the Bac
calaureate sermon.
On Monday night, the Recitation
and Declamation contest will be held
in the high school auditorium. The
Glee club, under the direction of
Mrs. T. P. Burgess; will present a
concwHP whieh will be of interest to
all 'lovers of --music.
TRe grammar grades will present
a program on Wednesday, May 6 at
1:30. The Senior class win present
their class day exercises, "Seniors at
the Bar", on Wednesday, May 6 at
8:00.
The graduating exercises will be
held Thursday morning, May 7 at

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
The program of the P.T.A., held a
Tuesday afternoon, featured a pre
sentation of charts showing the in
dividual rating of each child in school,
and. also the rating of the grades as
whole. Many interesting and helpful
facts were brought out as a result of
the study of the charts. A series of mr
chievement tests recently given in
each grade throughout the school,
made possible this individual grading.
The main business item of the day
was the election of officers. Profea- -sor
R. M. Lee was elected president.
The other officers were re-electedU

son Tilson;; secretary Miss Mary
Helen Fitzgerald; and treasurer, Mr.
James Landers. Professor V. E.

Mr. A. V. Nolan, now of Raleigh,
spent the week-end here with bis
family.
Dr. and Mrs. Walt N. Johnson, who
are spending the winter at Durham,
spent Friday to Tuesday here with
friends. It was a treat to have Dr
Johnson preach on Sunday morning.
Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor, who
nave made Their home here in the
McCall cottage for ore than a
year, are leaving on Thursday to vis
it with relatives until the meeting ot
the Southern Baptist Convention.
Immediately after that meeting, they
expect to sail for Brazil to continue
their work as missionaries. On Sun
day evening Dr. Taylor told of some
interesting experiences in connection
with the mission work in Brazil.
They are leaving the three older
children here in school. Betty, the
youngest, is returning with them.
They have made many friends here
who wish them joy, happiness, and
success in their work. Dr. Taylor
has been appointed superintendent of
all Southern Baptist Mission Work
south of the Rio Grande and through,
out South America.
Mrs. George Leiby and little son,
of Bryson City, came over Sunday
