Hot Springs High School Club Visits Carson-Newman The College"cuTb Hot Springs Hieh Sdhool visited Carson-Newman CoHege March 10 on Achievement and Hospitality Day. Lunch Was served in the ' college cafeteria with a C-N student & host or hostess to each group. After lunch, the students were directed through all of the buildings on the campus with special empha sis on certain student activities. At the close of the program, students vrero permitted to explore the cam pus wore, or return to their respect ive homes. James Huey and Landon Heal, of larshall, are the only contenders for hird base. The two look about nual in pre-season practice, and 'oaeh Nomnan Harris is mum about he favorite. James Johnson, of Walnut, who sparked the Bulldogs to the confer nce championship in football last 'all -with his brilliant quarterback- ing, is out to cinch a shortstop berth Johnson is up against stiff oompe tition for the spot, with Bob Mont gomery of Moeksville arid Bobby rew of Morganton also trying for shortstop. The Bulldogs have 26 men out for oractice, including eight of last year's conference champions. Lead ing the pack are J. T. Davis of Ma rion, who pitched five wins and one Obs last year, and Jerry Hawkins behind the plate, who led the con ferenco in hitting last season with .402. The season opened is a home tilt with Wingate, March 27. Shelton died in an Asheville hos pital Thursday nht, March 15, 1956 at 9:30 o'clock following a length) illness.
