Mrs. Eva Sams, class president, presided and devotions were given by Mrs. Walter Ramsey and Mrs. Hettie R. Blankenship. . During the business session, the members voted to sponsor a rum mage and bake sale on Saturday, May 12. 'Definite plans will be an nounced later. Mrs. W. B. Ramsey had charge of the program and led -the group in a number of contests. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. John Corbett, Mrs. D. D. Gross, Mrs. J. M. Baley Jr., Mrs. L. B. Ramsey, Mrs. Fred Rob n;:.m, Mrs. Lyman Martin, Mrs. Kermit Cody and Mrs. Jim Story. At the close of the meeting, the hostess served delicious refresh ments. Those present were Mrs. L. Bull Creek Community Development Club Met Monday The Bull Creek Community Devel opment Club met Monday evening at 7:30. Due to the absence of the president, Miss Aldeen Waldrup pre sided. Mr. Grant McDaris was in charge of the devotions and read from Psalms, after which Mr. Wal ter Wilds led in a prayer for guid ance and dedication. Then John Sil ver led in group singing. During the business session, Mr. U. K. vona reported on progress made by the Beautiflcation Commit tee on the construction of signs, and Mrs. Grady Clark outlined the conditions by which members would be able to secure telephones. The county agents then showed a mm on rat control, after which Mr. Har ry Silver gave timely suggestions ab6ut the desirability of a rat-con trol project. f or refreshments, we enjoyed a variety o f delicious home-made cakes, coffee and punch. Mrs. Hu bert Scott presided at the coffee service, Mrs. Kenneth Hensley pour er punch and Mrs. Albun Buckner and Miss Willie Jo Sprinkle served cake. Vance, of Mars Hill, will be held Sunday evening at eight o'clock in the Mars Hill Baptist Church. 'Dr. Vance, well-known physfeian of Mad ison County and head of the Vance Clinic in Marshall, will leave on May 6 for Southern Rhodesia. Dr. Vance will also be honored Sunday at 12:45 o'clock with a luncheon at the Mars Hill College Cafeteria. The luncheon will be at tended by the Mars Hill Baptist Church deacons and their wives. Dr. Vance resigned from the board of deacons of the church last Monday night due to his leaving. Baptist Leaders' Workshop In West Asheville Friday A one-day workshop for Baptist pastors, educational . workers and leaders of nursery, beginner and pri mary children will be held Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church, in West Asheville. The session will be gin at 10 a. m., and close at 4:00 p. m. Miss Sarah Hull, associate in the State Baptist Training Union De partment, will be in charge of the workshop. Purpose of the workshops is to acquaint church leaders in all de partments with the most effective means of giving religious instruc tion to small children. The method used will be to show actual condi tions and procedures used in teach ing children of ages between birth through the eighth year. Geared especially to the needs of the small churches' with limited fa cilities, materials and teaching meth ods available to churches of all sizes will be explained, from the small one-room church to the large city church. Assisting Mrs. Hull in the West Asheville meeting will be nursery workers: , Mrs. Ann Huguley Bur nette, wife of the educational di rector at the First Baptist Church, Columbia, S. C, and formerly Train ing Union nursery director for the Southern Baptist Convention; and beginner worker, Mrs. R. W. Pace, elemetary director for the First Bap tist Church, Asheville. Attend Social Service Meeting Mrs. Lillie F. Elmore and Mrs. Grace S. English, case workers in the Madison County Department of Public Welfare, returned Tuesday night from Durham where they at tended a meeting of the North Car olina Conference for Social Service. I wouldn't know where were their wives and children while the meeting lasted? don't know that either but I'm positive that the churches who claim these men could have used them those Sundays nev er saw a woman present (knock on wood) only heard one man mention these meetings but a lot of women thought it could be postponed to 12:01 when church services would be over see you in Sunday Schoo boys found some of the old fashioned climbing nasturtium seed in town last week you remem ber the sort that runs twenty feet or so and blossoms all the way the best thing alwut them is that they bloom in poor, rocky soil with no fertilizer whatever rich soil makes theim all vine and no bloom and the seed makes a good pickle spice have some sweet corn to plant when the leaves on the poplar tree are the size of a squir rel's ear which will be about next week. Frank Payne of Marshall and the late Mrs. Etta Sluder Payne, was married to Allen Ezekiel Bare field, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Barefield of Garfield, Ga., in a candlelight ceremony Saturday, Ap ril 14, 1956 at 7:30 p. m., in the James Street Free Will Baptist Church of River Rouge, Mich. The Rev. James Gilliam perform ed the ceremony. Wedding music was presented by Joy Price. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Plumer, of Wyandotte, Mich., wore a gown of lace and ny lon over white bridal satin, with a peter pan collar and fitted sleeves which formed points over the hands. The fitted bodice was attached to a full skirt. A head piece fashioned of sequins and pearls held her fin gertip length veil.. She carried a white Bible topped with a white or chid and satin streamers. Mrs. Plumer Payne, sister-in-law of the bride, was ' matron of honor. She wore an orchid nylon gown with a sweetheart neckline and full skirt. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Mrs. Dillard Payne, also sister-in-law of the bride, and Miss Ruth Payne were bridesmaids. They wore green nylon gowns with sweeheart necklines and carried bouquets of white roses. U i ! i . i SATURDAY Presbyterian Group Entertains College Students At Manse The Westminster Fellowship of the Marshall Presbyterian Church, Mi.ss Madeline Ramsey, moderator, entertained college students at the manse in observance of National Christian College Day on Sunday, April 16. Special guests were Presbyterian students- attending Mars Hill Col lege; also Miss Emma Ruth Edwards of Berea College, Kentucky, and Miss Johanne Ibsen of Maryville Col lege, Tennessee. Receiving with Miss Ramsey were the Rev. and Mrs. L. Richard Mel- 1 lin, Rocky Bowman and Mrs. Har ry B. Ditmore and Mrs. W. W. Peek, leaders.
