Drainage On Low Landi
" Cause . Some Loss;
l '58 Crop Beats '57
'According to Harry G. Silver
' county aigent, the 1958 burley to
bacco crop in Madison County ap
pears to be very good at this time.
The seckion of the county south
of the French Broad River has a
much better crop of burley tobac
co than in 1957. Much of the low
lonJ anA nafpllM tlth 1 Tl Sllf f icient )

drainage has haa" trouble with ' '
drowning and farmers with tobae
co in these localities have suffer
ed loss in the potential produc
tion this year.
The flue-cured tobacco crop is
practically sold at this time and
reports indicate that the body of
their tobacco crop has been light.
This condition would indicate
need by the manufacturer for a
heavy bodied burley crop in order
to balance their blend for future
use in citrarette Droduction. The
wet season in the early tobacco
season has caused much of their
burley crop to also be light in
body.
