Ann Reeves was Every American family which enjoys the benefits of good food, clothing, shelter and some of the luxuries of life, would do well to look around them and decide up on a Christmas project for a needy family, or a fellow citizen who is less fortunate. ' ' If every family Jn Our com munity would assume the responsi bility of helping 'one other family, or some unfortupate,' ill or needy individual, this Christmas could be made the best ever observed in the United States. We are not suggesting that fanv ilies wait until Christmas time, go down to the local store -and buy a few groceries to take to some needy family. In ihii way the really deserving1 rtases : are not found, because there is : not time to investigate ' the, situation properly, and the real spirit of Christmas is not fully carried out Those who wisV to ,! make this Christmas season a happy one for all the children, ' and not just those children with wealth s at their command, should J look a round to discover other ways of helping their fellowmen. MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION The need for a careful inspec tion of the condition of automo biles that use our highways at high speed is apparent. We are triad that oraictically all of our states require by law that motor vehicles be carefully inspected at regular intervals. The safety of those who use the highways, whether in auto mobiles, trucks, op walking along the roads, is in danger every time a defective motor vehicle operates. on the roads. Defective lights and brakes that will not stop car DTomutly are probably the most common defects. There are enough risks on the highways of the nation without deliberately permitting flie use of vehicles that are mere contrap tions even when carefully operat ed. Something must be done to cut down the fatalities on our highways, and it might be a good idea for all of the states of the Union ' to insist upon regular in spections for the purpose of e dtainating jalopies, rattle-traps. and even better cars which have serious defects.
