Airmail 80s Per Week Four Months EDITORIAL STREET LIGHTS NEEDED HERE Have you passed through Black Mountain lately and noticed the vast improvement in its street light y I ing? The same thing is true in ma"ny of the smaller " towns as one travels toward eastern North Carolina. Modern street lights have replaced -the single bulb fixtures, making the appearance of the towns much , more attractive and at the same time making it a much safer place. Another fine example is in Ashe ville where hundreds of brilliant lights now light up the streets and sidewalks so well that you could spot a dime on the sidewalk at midnight. Mars Hill is installing a new system of lighting in the business district and will turn on the new street lights Friday night. We congratulate the may- t or and board of aldermen of Mars Hill and the French Broad Electric Membership Corporation for making this improvement. Perhaps it is a good time to suggest sueh an im provement for Marshall. Have you noticed how dark ' and unattractive our town is at night? Wouldn't it 1 be practical and sensible and in the long run 't economical, to invest in a modern system of street , lighting? We haven't mentioned this to any alder- ' man nor have we approached the French Broad E- lectric Corporation, but we feel that they, too, are aware of the antiquity of the present system.
