BAG -1 J 10 9Po IIMS GIVEN BY AGENT , l 'jfx Food On several farms throughout the county the problem of storage for pumpkins, ' apples, potatoes and other foods that keep through the winter, Is ,big problem, stated Ethel . V. ' Townsend '.assist bant home agent, ithis week. We must plan to take care of these items so they will be Available for onr use during the winter months. Some of the rules for storage of these articles are: 1. Keep them dry and in a place where the air can circulate a round them. 2. Keep in a dark place. 3. Keep out att of the moisture possible. 4. Keep out the cold freezing air from these foods. If you fol low these- rule in storing your foods you will not have to pur chase these from your grocer dur the winter months ahead. 5. Keep in place where rats and other rodents can't get to them. 6. If fruit, wrapping in indivi dual paper will also aid them in keeping longer. Gardening Growing flowers is one of the things Mrs. Frank Flynn enjoys most about living on the farm. She has some beautiful potted flowers as well as a garden of them outside. When visiting her several days ago I just observed the many dif ferent types and colors she has. When I came sway I had a beau tiful bouquet of them for my of fice. To talk with her about this hobby was a great pleasure as well as educational for me. ' Clothing 'Storage of summer clothing is one problem facing many of our families. RICKMAN V Field Representative V Madison County "Recently we have received nu merous inquiries and requests from individuals wanting to tfree' their social security rec ord," Mrs. Lucille M. Riokman, field representative of the Ashe ville Social Security Office, stat ed today. "There seems to be widespread incorrect information concerning the 'freeze' provisions of the law." The freeze can only apply if a per son is disabled before age 60. Al so, before it can apply the per son must have at least 5 years work under the social security law, and his disability must be established with medical evidence If the freeze' claim is approved, it simply means that the time the person was disabled will not count against him in determining fu ture benefits. ' , If a person quits his job before he reaches retirement age for any reason other than disability, the law does not i permit "freezing" his earnings record. Mrs. Riokman is in the Court House in Marshall every first and third Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a, ., to give iformation and as sistance to - Madison County resi dents on social security matters.
