Due to the deep enow and extended period of bad weath er during the spring of I960, ma ny North -Carolina farmers were short on hay and silage for feed- ing their cattle. The money spent for roughage (to finish the winter feed period 'took a large share of the farmers' profit on livestock enterprises. E. O. Burnetts of Walnut Com munity in Madison County has made plans to supplement his winter roughage program this year by topdressing 'his cover crops with a nitrogen- fertilizer. He feels that the ammonium nitrate . used on the cover crops during ithe late winter months will iprovide a large amount of grazing for his dairy cows. He says that the extra gnasoing re ceived as a result of this practice wiill much more than offset the cost of the material used. ' This practice 'will also be used by other farmers : in the county this year.. : TWO ACCUSED OF ILLEGAL HUNTING : it Frustration don't mix. .. and temptation ; like Hhe (frustration of - two deerless hunts. , v' - And the temptation - of a doe popping up from the woodJas you drive along, weapon lianidy.: ' Ths contUn-atlon was rela'ted .to N.
