Fire of undetermined origin de
stroyed the 6-room house of Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Fagan of the Bull
Creek section early Sunday morn
ing. Carol Edwards of Mars Hill
discovered the fire about 5:30 a.
m., and rescued Mr. Fagan from
the burning house. Mr. Fagan,
who had been overcome by smoke
and fumes, was found lying on
the floor in the den near an out
side door. He was .taken to Me
morial Mission Hospital for treat
ment. - '
. The Mars Hill Fire Department
responded to the alarm, but when
they arrived the house was prac
tically destroyed.- Only a rocking
chair from the front porch ; was

home of relatives at the time of

! Sherry Henderson, two-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed
gar W. (Skeeter) Henderson, of
Walnut, succumbed Wednesday
afternoon about 4:30 o'clock in
an ; Asheville hospital from burns
received last Friday morning at
her home. v; 7?
The accident occurred when her
clothing caught fire about 11:25
o'clock while she was playing with
matches, it was reported. i .-
Mrs. Henderson had gone out
to hang clothes on the line to dry
when the accident occurred.
According to hospital authori
ties, Sherry was burned over 70
percent of her body, mostly third
and second degree.
Funeral services will be held I
Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in
the Walnut Presbyterian Church
with the Rev. Charles Heier, pas
tor, officiating. Burial will be in
the Walnut Cemetery, i -' ' f ,

Surviving are the parents; two
sisters, Judie and Nancy; and three

membership in four western
North Carolina counties and three
Eastern Tennessee counties They

and Mitchell in North Carolina;

A Madison County woman shot
her husband in the face with a 12
guage shot gun Saturday, but the
blast resulted only in flesh wounds
Sheriff E. Y. Ponder reported

Mrs. William George of Rt. 1,
Mars Hill was charged Saturday
with assault with a deadly wea
pon with intent to kill. She was
freed on $1,000 bond Sunday pend
ing a hearing Monday.
