ELEANOR GENTRY OUR GREAT COMMISSION Much is said of the "great com mission" which our Lord gave to His apostles Just before His as cension. We wonder whether our readers have ever examined the various records of this commis-i sion carefully. ; This "great commission" does not say one word about "the preaching of the cross" or "tho gospel of the grace of God." The "gospel" which they were sent to preach was very evidently the same "gospel", they . had been preaching the -Gospel of the Kingdom only they could now declare, as Peter did at Pente cost, that the King had risen from the dead and would still some day occupy the throne of David . The "great commission" de manded faith and baptism for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15. 16): it included the power to heal the sick and work miracles (Mark 16:17, 18) but it did not include the glad message that "Christ died for our sin" (I Cor. 15:1-3). At Pentecost, when Peter began to carry out this commission, he Bon Whites Are Honored Friday At Housewarming rather blamed his hearers for the death of Christ and when, convict ed of ' their sins, they asked: 'What shall we do " he did not say; "Believe on Christ who died for - your sins." He rather com manded them to "repent and be oaptized every one . . . lor the remission of sins'' (Acts 2:38). But after Christ and His king dom were again rejected, God in terrupted the prophetic program and sent Paul forth to proclaim 'the preaching of the cross" and "the gospel of the grace of God." In II Cor. 5:14-21 this apostle pro claims "the love of Christ" who "died for all" and instructs us as to OUR "great commission." " And all things are of (provid ed by) God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, AND HATH GIVEN TO US THE MINISTRY OP RECONCILIATION; "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself . . . AND HATH COM MITTED UNTO US THE WORD OP RECONCILIATION" (n Cor. (5:18, 19). . 1 And Dm 1961 FAIRLANE 4-Door Automatic Trans Radio and Heater Extra Clean .-'-., ... r fr-a--.- IL'i..,- 1956 FORD Fordor Standard Transmission - "J i : 1957 MERCURY Tudor - Hardtop 1955 FORD Tudor " - J:l i " t: Standard Trans Radio and Heater " Standard Trans. (Proverbs 3:6). Going home late one stormy cold night, I was stopped at a railroad crossing by a" freight train. As the rreat diesel rolled past, I could see a faint litrht in Ahe control cabin. I knew that within that cabin there were men who . were .alert everv moment f the trip, f Regardless of the night, they would direct that great train l w journey carrying mercnan- oise 01 great value. - r . . . i .This reminda me. that God-is at the controls of our lives. He Is ever watchful, always suidinir. no matter how stormy the night, or now desolate the day. Sometimes the journey is difficult: hut if we allow Him to guide. He will bring us through successfully. It is only when we think we know it all and think we can control our destines that we get off the track. As the great train rolled on. it finally passed out of sieht and hearing. I breathed a prayer. I prayed that I might always let God have complete control of mv life; that He would be my personal uod, and direct my paths in Christ- like living. . rrayer: O God. hclo us t!.ls day to fst a -l-t in co ; fe f"i-t- 1 of Oiir V.vfi.
