Sergeant Johnson, a career counselor in the battalion's Headquarters Detachment at the Transportation School, entered the Army in 1948. The sergeant, whose mother, Mrs. Polly Johnson, lives near Mar shall, attended White Rock High School His wife. Myrtle, lives in Newport News, Va. Madison County Larger Church Parish News O Activities in the Madison Coun ty Presbyterian churches that make up the Parish have been ma ny and varied over recent weeks. The Presbyterian Church at Hot Springs has been undergoing sev eral changes. This summer the church has a new roof put on it and in recent weeks a group of young people from Illinois have painted the interior, while Ken- nut church on Sunday night and a family night supper at the Mar shall church on Wednesday night. There have also been youth pro grams in several of the other churches of the Parish. The group is under the leadership of the Rev. Brian Cannon who spent a sum mer in 1951 in Madison County as a student minister. Mr. Dick Marshall and wife are also wtih the grtrap of 13 high school youth. The Monthly Parish Wide Youth Rally was held last Friday night at the Alleghany church Some 90 young peope from Hot Springs, Allenstand, Alleghany, Marshall, Glen Lee, and Walnut attended the rally. A hay ride, singspiration The Methodist Missionary f- ciety met at the church Tuesday night in regular session. Rev. and Mrs, Earl Konkle and family have returned after a week's visit to points in Indiana Mrs. . j. a. itoDerts Has gone for a two weeks visit with her daughter and family of , Rock Hill, S. C Mr. and Mrs. N. 0. Neal of Cooper Hill, Tenn.; were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Col lins, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Huffman Lunts ford, and little tfon, Bennie, . of Pensacola, Fla., are home for a visit with their parents. , Mr. and Mrs, E. J. Evans, and family have returned to , Kings, Mountain, N. C after' spending the summer in Hot Springs. Mr, Evans is superintendent of schools in Kings Mountain. Miss Eula Fowler of Winter Park, Fla., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Fowler. -Mr. Fletus Ramsey, of Chat tanooga, Tenn., is visiting home folks here at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smith and family have returned to Fredricks burg, Va., after a week's .visit with Mrs. Smith's mother. Mrs. i George S. Lippard. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Morgan, of Newport, Tenn., were Sunday guests of Bob and Nellie Kirby. J. P. and Bob have each been with the Southern Railway over fifty years, and they can talk up storm about olden times when they get together. Miss Marjorie Collins of Groton, N. Y., is visiting her mother, Mrs. Violet Collins this week. , .The Rev. and Mrs. J. M, Scherch of Sayer, Penna., have returned home . after , a week's stay with Mrs.) Sayers mother, Mrs. Violet Collins. Linnie Anderson, a lad of ' 16 years, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderson returned to his home Monday in Granite Falls, Montana. Linnie left the airport in Knoxville at 8 p. m., Monday and ten hours later, arrived safely home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Plemmons have returned to their home in Charlotte, after a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Henderson. Mrs. Bus Smith and daughter, Sherry, have returned to their home in Richlands, Va., after a weeks visit with Mrs. Mildred Mar. Men, Dies Thursday Mrs. Lula Sears, 79, formerly of Corbin. Ky., died in an Ashe ville nursing home," Thursday morning, August 16, 1962, after a long illness. Surviving are a brother. Boyd Edwards of Burnsville; and two nephews of Mars Hill. A new Presbyterian church is being planned for Walnut. Pre liminary sketches are already completed. Construction should begin sometime in late summer or real early fall. Presbyterian churches in the Parish are located at Marshall, Walnut, Glen Lee, Hurricane, Hot Springs, Allenstand, White Rock and, Alleghany. People pving in these areas are invited to attend the services each week as well as the venous mid-week youth and adult programs. Rev. ' Former Mars Hill Resident Passes In Morristown Of interest to her many friends in Mars Hill and Madison Coun ty, will be the announcement of the death of Mrs. S. 0. Trentham at her home in Morristown, Tenn. Mrs. Trentham lived for a num ber of years in Mars Hill, taught in the high school there a num ber of years and then was con nected with the late Mrs. Elmore in the Welfare Department. The children grew up in Mars Hill and will be ermembered by the young er group, She is survived by her husband, Shannon Otis Trentham of Mor- istowii; two sons, Harold Lee of Houston, Texas; and William Robert of Borger, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Louise! Campbell, Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Frances JeariyOwen, of - Dallas, TiatnrsrJMargaret Tankersly and Mrs. Betty Ann Oliver of Richardson, Texas; and 16 grand children.
