Dies In Georgia
Stern J. Thomas, 47, of Oteen,
native of Madison County, died
Wednesday night, February 20,
1963, near Jesup, Oa., when his
truck ran off the highway and
struck a tourist cabin.
Georgia State Highway Patrol
authorities said Mr. Thomas ap
parently died of a heart attack.
He was a driver of the Banana
Distributing Co. of Baltimore, Md.
and was on his way to Flordia for
a cargo.
Surviving arc the widow, Mrs.
Ruby Thomas of the home; two
sons, Stern Jr., and Robert Thom
as, both of Asheville; one daugh
ter, Mrs. Ted Sullivan of Atlanta,
Ja.; the stepmother, Mrs. Amer
ica Thomas of Alexander, and two
brothers, Law ton of Brevard and
Robson Thomas of Hot Springs.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday February 23, 1963 at
Walnut Methodist Church.
The Rev. Alfred Taylor offici
ated and burial was in the church
cemetery.
Pallbearers were L. R. Rector,
Lewis Rector, Donald Stines, Wil
liam Thomas, Hampton Guthrie,
Raymond Stines, R. H. McClure,
and Jack Guthrie.

in charge.

The New Parsonage of Bethel Baptist Church
(French Broad Association), RFD 2, Mars Hill, N.
C., and a part of the congregation that was present
for the Dedication Services held recently. The build
ing, debt free, is valued at $12,500.00, but due to the
splendid cooperation of the membership in furnish
ing materials and free labor it was constructed for a
far less figure. The Rev. T. S. Henderson is pastor
of this progressive church.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Izlar of
Chattanooga, Tenn., have returned
home after several days in Hot
Springs with their mothers, Mrs.
G. Burgin and Mrs. Mildred Izlar.
Mrs. Maude Long and Mrs. Bob
Davis, also Mayor Henderson and
R. C. Kirby were called to Atlan
ta last week in the interest of our
Housing project. Twenty houses
will be built for retired people and
those of low income.
Messrs Cline, Adams and Mann
of FHA, Atlanta were visitors to
our town this week. They were in
specting sites for the proposed
housing project.
Ronnie Gentry, who has been
ihospitilized at St. Joseph, Ashe
ville, for two weeks, is greatly im
proved, and will be home soon.
Little Dena Anderson, daughter

of Alpine Court is recovering from
a severe case of flu.
The Worlds Day of prayer will
be observed Friday March 1st. at
7:30 p. m. at the Methodist Church.

Rev. Harry Sellers, our Metho
dist preacher, together with Mrs.
Sellers and little son Russell have
gone to Stark, Florida to visit
Harry's grandparents.
Paul McFall is up and around
once more after undergoing sur
gery twice in the last few months.
Paul has a host of friends around
here that hope his health will be
greatly improved, after this
last operation.

the Methodist Church, Sunday
school will be at 10 a. m. and
preaching services will be at 11
a. m.
Mrs. J. A. Roberts sustained a
most painful injury Saturday fal
ling in her kitchen, breaking her
left arm in two places.
