NO CORN, NEW CAR
Big Flats, N. Y. William T.
Smith, a farmer, hopes to make
taxpayers angry because of his
new 6,100 Cadillac, To help an
ger them, he's placed this sign on
the car: "we bought this car with
money we received for not grow
ing corn."
Smith, owner of a 1,200-acre
dairy and poultry farm in south
central New York state, has re
ceived $3,049 so far and is to get
another $3,450 for keeping 104
acres out of production.
This is the way Smith is pro
testing the Federal Government's
crop-control program. He claims
that paying taxpayers' money to
farmers to keep land out of pro
duction is not "morally right"
