81, IMS in an Asheville hospital
after an extended illness.

He ha eight children, 19 grand
children and 40 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brooks' second grade stu
dents and Mrs. Sumerel's third
grade students, number 76, vis
ited several places of Interest in
Marshall Wednesday. The stu
dents roda to Marshall on the
Carolina Special and returned to
Hot Springs by school bus.
Accompanying the students in
addition to Mrs. Brooks and Mrs.
Sumerel were the grade mothers,
Mrs. Konkle, Mrs. Sisk, Mrs. Price,
Mrs. Whitten, Mrs. Puryear and
Mrs. King.
Included in the tour were visits

Co., Courthouse, high school and
Fire Department.

The Marshall Book Club met
Monday evening, May 20, at the
home of Mrs. John O. Corbett
A very interesting program was
given by Mrs. R. R. Ramsey, who
reviewed the book "A Family on
Wheels" by Maria Augusta Trapp.
This is the true story of the fa
mous singing Trapp family, orig
inally from Austria and number
ing twelve in all, who have travel
led and sung in many parte of
the world. They now live in Ver
mont, and have made recordings
of their wonderful music. These
records were played at the cloae
of Mrs. Ramsey's review.
It was voted by the club to par
ticipate in an Art study given by
the Metropolitan Museum of Art
of New York, beginning with the
next meeting.
A delicious dessert with coffee
was served to Mrs. J. B. Tweed,
Mrs. Walter Ramsey, Mrs. Clyde
Roberts, Mrs. J. L. McElroy, Mrs.

bett World's Tallest
Television Tower
Near Knoxville
Construction has begun on the
world's tallest television tower
which is being built by WBIR-TV,
Knoxville, Tenn., it was stated to
,day by John P. Hart .manager of
the station. This new tower, which
raises 1750 feet above ground,
will be located 15 miles east of
Knoxville on Highway 11W. From
this increased altitude, the WBIR
TV signal will be projected over a
wider area than has been former
ly possible at their old location.
Officials state that if work goes
as planned, the station should be
broadcasting from this tall tower
in September.
WBIR-TV is affiliated with the
Columbia Broadcasting System.
