Galatiana 3:1-9
I am crucified with Christ;
nevertheless I live; yet not I, bat
Christ liveth in me: ami the Ufe
which I now live in the fleah I
live by the faith of the Son of God,
who loveth me, and gave himself
for me. (UalatiaiiH 2:20).
It took years of hard work for
George Washington Carver, the
Negro scientist, to ecfuip a labora
tory and to make productive the
poor soil he had. He developed
nearly 300 by-products from pea
nuts. His discoveries are today
the foundation for industries worth
millions of dollars.
The soil with which he worked
seemed at first completely value
less. But Carver did what he1
frequently advised others to do
he made us of what he had at hand
Carver had a faith that brought
'htm victories. Many of us have
talents that are unproductive only
because they are unused. When
we put our faith in Christ, He is
able to meet us in every circum
Btance in life and so bring victory
in our daily tasks.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
When our faith goes into action,
it harnesses our talents for service.
LACKS CHARACTER
The fellow who sets a good ex

COMBING THE MOUNTAINS
for more than half a century in search
of its unrecorded ballads, its tradi
tional fiddlers and ita dancers, you
accumulate friends. At 81, and the
producer of the annual Western North
Carolina Mountain Dance and Folk
Festival for 36 years, Bascom Lamar
Lunsford has many friendships to re
new. Here he grasps the hand of old
friend Champ Ray of Madison Coun
ty, encountered at Hot Springy. Luns
ford is currently busy screening
authentic mountain talent for the
August 1 festival.
