Harnett Payne, who is with the U. S. Army, left Sunday night for Fort Story, Vs. Harry Briggs, who has been in Lincoln Park, Mich., for the past several months, returned to his home here last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Corbett will leave Sunday by jet plane for the Bahamas where they will spend several days. Mr. Corbett will at tend a Ford dealers' marketing institute while in the Bahamas. The Nial Coates family moved recently to the home they pur chased on Ivy Hill Road (Jupiter highway). They are finding it to be a very friendly community. A number of friends and relatives from the Grapevine community visited with them Sunday. From this place they have a magnifi cent panoramic view of the Blue Kidfie Mountains. Miss Judy Ann Coates, who is a freshman at Berea College, Be rea, Ky., visited her parents and other relatives over the week-end. r 1 W ir. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Frisbee spent the week-end here with Mrs. Frisbee 's mother, Mrs. Jerlee Am nions, and left Monday to return to their home in Jacksonville, Fla. Miss Patsy Lunsford returned to her home in Washington, D. C, after spending Saturday and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lunsford and family of Marshall Rt. 4. Mrs. John Lisenbee has had as recent guests her daughter, Mrs. Bruce Green of Washington, P. C, and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Forest Lisenbee, and niece, Kim Seymour, of Falls Church, Va. They left Tuesday of this week for their homes . SSgt. William Bernard Ram sey of Robins Air Force Base, Ga., spent the week-end in Mar shall with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Patton of High Point spent the week-end in Marshall with Mrs. Patton's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ram sey. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Morton, of Moncure, left Friday of last week after spending a few days here with Mrs. Morton's mother, Mrs. William Worley and family; and Mr. and Mrs. Guy White. Anoth er daughter of Mrs. Worley, Mrs. John Roberson, and Mr. Roberson of Taylorsville also recently Tis ited Mrs. Worley and the Whites. Mr. and Mrs. Tad Sprinkle and three children spent the week-end in Marshall with their parents, Mrs. (Veil Sprinkle, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Eads. Mack Ramsey Jr., of Fort Lau derdale, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ramsey and family of Charlotte, have returned to their homes after spending several days here due to the illness of their mother, Mrs. Mack Ramsey Sr. Miss Let Jo Ramsey, who is a senior at Tusculum College, at Greeneville, Tenn., and Thomas L. Cowan of Raleigh spent the week end in Marshall with Miss Ram sey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Ramsey. With The Sick q Mrs. Jerry Rice is confined to her home this week due to illness. The condition of Mrs. Mack Ramsey Sr., of Marshall, who un derwent surgery in Memorial Mission Hospital several days ago. is reported to be improved. Fuller 11. Stines entered St. Joseph's Hospital Wednesday where he will undergo surgery to day (Thursday). HEARD AND EEN By "POP" Linda Haynie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pascal ("Snooks") Hay nie, has been confined to her home as a result of a fall in which she sustained a badly-cut leg re quiring several stitches to be taken. Shupe of Wal nut left Monday for Raleigh where she will attend the winter executive board meeting of the North Carolina Congress of Par ents and Teachers on Monday af ternoon, and the state board of managers meeting on Tuesday an Wednesday at state head quarters on Glen wood Avenue On Tuesday, Miss Dema Ken nedy of Chicago, field consultant of the National Congress, will meet with the board to discuss plana for the year and the prob lem of new state chairmen. Mrs. Shupe is publicity chair man of the state congress. Fowler Shelton returned to his hoane Tuesday after undergoing treatment af Memorial TWssion Hospital. Mrs. George B. Shupe, presi dent, said that several of the la- i dies of her club are interested but she is not sure how many are go ing. "Mrs. Cromartie has done a good job in promoting women in the Democratic Party to an equal status with men and we appreci ate her efforts for this cause. While I have disagreed with her on some issues, I feel that she deserves a vote of thanks for a job well done in this area of wom en participating," Mrs. Shupe stated. Mr. Joe Chris Robinson of Mars Hill College gave a survey of art over the years, showing slides of masterpieces. He was a native of Haywood County, a son of William and Em ma Jane Bryant Coward. Surviving are four sons, Ste phen, Lloyd and Stewart of Hot Springs Rt. 1, and William E. Coward of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Rhinehart and Mrs. Bernice Waldroup of Hot Springs, and Mrs. Euras Bald win of Candler. Services will be held at 2 p. m., Friday at Liberty Baptist Church, Spring Creek. The Rev, Everett Sprinkle and the Rev. Dewey Rogers will offi ciate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
