BEEF CATTLE PLANNING COMM. HOLDS MEETING There was a meeting of the Madison County Beef Cattle Plan ning Committee, who are Joe Rice, Ernest Teague, Burt Freeman, Rurder Reeves, Don Wild, and Jack Price. The committee view ed the beef oattle situation and came up with the following things that should be emphasized by the Extension Servcie in 1964 to in crease the income in Madison County for beef cattle. First, in the cow-calf enterprise the things to be emphasized are: (1) Parasite control; (2) Pro duction records; (3) Itmprove pas tures; (4) Proven sires. In the feeder stocker steer en terprise, things to be emphasized are: (1) Purchase the right kind of steers; (2) Parasite control; (3) The adequate feeding of protein; (4) The -isolation and observation of all purchased cattle. It was the consensus of the committee that Madison County has a considerable way to grow before it reaches its goal in beef cattle. It now ranks second in the Western counties in beef pro duction and with the proper em phasis, we hope to rank first.
