Strawberries For
Additional Income
Harry G. Silver, county agent,
states that for the past three
years a number of the Madison
County fanners have been pur
chasing Tennessee Beauty straw
berry plants ordered for them by
the county agricultural extension
office. P Van tings made with these
plants have been doing an excel
lent job for the farmers and home
makers. There is more acreage
of strawberries in the county now
than at any time during the past
fifteen years. The majority of
these strawberries are being used
for home consumption. There will
be some surplus strawberries for
Rale this year in the county if the
season is favorable.
There is an excellent opportuni
ty for an additional cash income
n every community in Madisori
County from the sale of strawber
ries. The county Extension otfice
will be taking orders for straw'
berry plants again this year. Thi
price will be approximately $10.00
per thousand. Farmers who are
interested in these plants are urg
ed to contact the county agricul
tural agents in the courthouse
as soon as possible in oraer uiai
arrangements may be made with
the nursery producing the plants.

INCOME TAX AND
SOCIAL SECURITY
At this time of the year, many
farmers make a preliminary check
to find out their expenses in re
lation to farm receipts and farm
expenses. If it is found that farm
receipts axe going to run high e-
nouah for much income tax they
will buy and have delivered to
their farm, farm supplies for next
year's crop or livestock enterpris
es. This enables the fanner to
adjust bis net income to a more
favorable tax bracket If, on the
other hand, expenses show that

large net profit, it to possible to
all additional items such aa live
stock to bring it into a more fa
vorable tax bracket.
Farmers have found that social
security is a very good farm in
vestment Every farmer should
file and pay social security taxes.
The young farmers may have de
pendents this is one of the
very best insurances he can buy.
The older farmer may wish to pay
as much aa he possibly can, in ro
der to make his social security
benefits larger when he reaches
the age to apply for social security.
