Feed Com, Cob And
Shuck Meal To
Replace Hay
Farmers who do not have e
nough roughage to carry their
cattle through the winter would
do well to consider feeding ground
corn, cob, and shuck meal to their
livestock. This is a high energy
feed and is a better buy per
pound of digestible nutrients than
is imoet hay that can be bought
at this time. This feed, rf mixed
with a small amount of protein
supplement such as cottonseed oil
meal, will provide a high energy
feed and will provide some bulk
in the ration. If this type feed
is fed, farmers may feed low
quality roughage, such as shucks,
cane, or low quality hay advanta
geously.
It is very important that ani
mals receive sortie saR in the win
ter and it may be mixed at the
nill with the corn, col), arid shuck
meal.
