Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Roberts and family, of Detroit, Mich., are spending several days here with his mother, Mrs. Wiley M. Rob erts and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Cutshall and family, of River Rouge, Mich, arc spending two weeks in the county with relatives and friends. Mi. and Mrs. J. li. Reid and ihiufrhter, Vickie, of Klizabeth City, X. ('., spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr-, anil Mis. J. IS. Reid. Mi. and Mrs. Tiny .1 Anders of Hinton, Tenn., and their two grandchildren, Gary and Pain, of Houston, Texas, were visiting relatives and friends here and in Leicester and Erwin community Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Iiaker and Mis3 Thelma Creasman of iirent wood, Md., are spending a few days visiting relatives in Mar shall, and other points in North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Nix, of Marshall visited Cape Kennedy, Kverglades National Park, Clear water, and Cypress Gardens, Fla., last week. .' CAROLINA HEARD AND SEEN By "POP" Sunday was a beautiful day and besides it was just the right time for Bill and me to "celebrate" our anniversary which was on Satur day when we couldn't celebrate so we decided to take a trip somewhere actually didn't know where we were going but just started somewhere as we neared Asheville I suggested we go toward Franklin and see Cold Mountain as well as visit some of our friends in Franklin we had a rough start in a way when I had to stop at a service station near Asheville and get new brake shoes installed on my car - - after that everything went okey it was hot - plenty hot luit occasional showers help ed enjoyed our visit in Franklin with the Weimar Joneses soriy the Sloans were not at home and also sorry we didn't have time to look up J. P. Bray and family it's a shame that I'm so p Mr. Jones, who is one of the most brilliant editorialists in t hi- state, invited hill and me to attend the editori al writers' seminar in London, England hut had to decline due to a slight lark of funds intended to come back via Doggett Moun tain and see the new road but heavy thunderstorms changed our minds - did you hear about the father who offered his son a car and driver's license if he would cut off his Heatle bangs - the son refused so his father went out and got him a dog's li cense instead - got all con fused the other day ami thought 1 had my contacts mixed up and in the wrong eyes (contact wear ers know what I mean) any way I went over to Fluharty s Monday and got straightened out had 'em in the right eyes but they needed polishing, etc. 111 bet Roy Reeves is having a wonderful time this week at Ocean Drive Beach, S. C, where he, Dot and the family are vacationing I miss my old croquet pard- ner so hurry back, Roy -r-1 can't handle such pros as Gall Edmonds, Andrew Bridges and Bill Hunter I don't make it a practice of publishing letters (personal) but can't resist pub lishing a very nice letter from Sue Rice, lovely wife Lawrence Rice, I received Tuesday a. m. I term it a "bitter-sweet" let ter the first part made my face turn red because I didn't ask Lawrence if his wife accompa nied him here recently I just published that Lawrence was vis iting his parents later found out Sue was along, too but too late then for the local column the "sweet" part of the let ter is the last paragraph and the complimentary close which also made me blush gosh, Sue, I didn't know you felt that way maybe you shouldn't let Law rence know he has too many pistols and guns to suit me anyway, 1 do appreciate the kind words and next time you come up here PLEASE let me know and you can bet I'll put it in the pa per the letter follows: Greensboro, N. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. Charles Neer of Winfield, Kans., and the late Mr. Neer, is serving with the U. S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune. They will live in Jacksonville. An imported linen and lace cloth belonging to the bride's aunt covered the reception table from which punch and cakes were f served.
