Marina Privata Johnny M. Flem
ing, son of Mr! and Mrs. Bteven
Fleming of .Rt, 1, Hot Springs,
was graduated from eight weeks
of recruit training at tbe Marine
Corps Recruit Depot here.
He will now undergo about three
weeks of individual combat train
ing and then, after leave at home,
will report to his first Marine
Corps assignment.
The intensified Marine recruit
training emphasizes rigid physic
al conditioning and survival tech
niques, both at sea and ashore,
to develop self-confidence and en
durance. Marksmanship with the
iM-14 rifle and 45-calibre pistol
are equally stressed, and close or
r der drill instills the traditions of
Marine Corps teamwork.
A thorough study of basic mili
f tary subjects; hygiene; first aid
and sanitation; and the customs,
courtesies, history and mission of
the Marine Corps serve to polish
the new Marine's recruit educa
tion and prepare him to join Ma
rine combat forces.
