Roger Edwards, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., is spending this week here with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Edwards returned last Sunday from a weeks trip to Canada to Expo 67. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Feldman and daughters, also made the trip recently. C are leaving Friday for a ten-day trip to Connecticut. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Briggs had all of their children and a number of their grandchildren with them last week-end. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Briggs, of Rockwell, Vs.; Mr. and Mrs. Lane Briggs and four sons, of Norfolk, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Briggs, two sons and daughter, who returned from the Azores last of June; Dr. and Mrs. W. P. , Chandler, of Weaverville and their daughter, Mrs. Jim Nesbitt and little daughter, of Chapel Hill, and Mrs. Julia Tilson and son, Mr. Owen Tilson. There were 25 in the group. S. Navy, was recently made com mercial manager of Radio sta tion WTOE in Spruce Pine. He is the son of Mrs. Dallas Buck ner of Mara Hill Rt. 2, and the late Charlie Buckner. He graduated from Mars Hill High School in. 1946 and worked in Ashevillo before joining the Navy in 1947. ' He advanced from yeoman rating t senior yeoman in 1964 and retired Dec 15, 1966. He holds a third class radio ope rator's license and did news broadcasting and had a disk-jockey show in Norfolk, Va., before going to Spruce Pine. Mrs, Uttie ri'Graprat' ' - , , f ) , . Pastes Friday) Funeral Sunday. Mrs. Uttie N. Grooms, 83, of Marshall Rt 2, died in her home Friday morning, July 21, 1967, after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a member of East Fork Church of God. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Roy Keith of the home. Services were held at graveside in Meadow Gap Cemetery at 2 p. m. Sunday. The Rev. Champ Rice and the Rev. Quill Ammons officiated. Bowman-Duckett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
