Any boy or girl who is interested in showing a dairy animal should1 contact the County Agent's Office aa soon as possible. It is not necessary for a boy or girl to own the animals in order to show them, but they must have either trans portation to travel to the dairy to care for the animals or have the facilities tit their home to board the animals while they are fitting them for the show. The County Agent's Office will be glad to see that a suitable animal is available and will give training, showmanship and groom ing. Also, transportation will be provided to get the animals to the show. There will be cash prizes and ribbons presented to the buys and girls who show ani mals. The total on the cash register tape at the grocery store no long er tells how much families are spending for fooi. The annual survey of grocery store sales, con ducted by Conover-Mast Publica tions, shows that one-fourth of the amount spent in grocery stores in lf was for nonfood items. For ALL Your Come Main i TO EXTENSION NEWS cent In a recent survey taken in Madison County it was found that half of the families have incomes of $3,000 or less and that the av erage education level is eighth grade. Three-fourths of the people live in sub-standard housing and indicated that they would improve their homes if the resources were available. There was a need ex pressed by forty per cent of the families surveyed for more train ing for better paying jobs. The Extension office is assist ing people m securing training through the Employment Securi ty Commission and the United States Department of Labor. The Extension agents were in strumental in establishing two sections of a six weeks training conducted by MDTA and attended by 29 trainees in tomato produc tion and management. Hy working with other agen cies a carpenters training course was set up for twenty-six weeks. Eight young men were selected for the training by contacting school officials and vocational teachers in the area. A comprehensive program in money management and home im provement is now in the planning stage. Fox earned the award for meritorious service as a section chief in Battery A, 6th Battalion of fehe division's 29th Artillery He entered the Army in Janua ry 1953, completed basic training at Ft. Chaffee, Ark., and arrived overseas in June 1967. Sgt. Fox graduated in 1949 at Bald Creek High School. His wife, Edith, lives on Rt. 3, Leicester.
