To Be Annual Event; Talent Outstanding; Lunsford Is Present Nearly a thousand people turn ed out Saturday night to honor the grand old music man of Appa liachia, Bascom Lamar Lunsford, and stayed for over five hours to listen to the music he loves at Chambers Gymnasium in MarS Hill. The occasion was the first fes tival to be named for the man who has done much to preserve the folk musk and folklore of the moun tain people. Lunal'ord and his wife led off the performance of some 161 mountain entertainers with two songs. He said he was pleased at the crowd, but didn't believe he deserved the tribute. Lunsford was introduced by Ed Howard, vice president of the Mars Hill Civitan Club, sponsors of the event. Howard said the festival will be an annual affair to both honor Lunaford audi to raise funds for a museum of Appa lachian culture to be built on the campus of Mars Hill College. The nucleus for the museum is already in the college's harnda. Lunsford has donated to the col lege his extensive collection of ballads, mountain tnlusieal instru ments, much of his personal li brary and bis scrapboeks filled with over a half a century of me mentos.
