Route 2, died Wednesday morn ing, February 18, 1970, in an Asheville hospital after a long illness. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Verchia B. Shook; three sons. John, Jack and Bob Shook of Mars Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Eng lish of Mars Hill and Mrs. Auburn Crowder of Newport News, Va.; three brothers, Charlie of Ashe ville, Sylvanius of Mars Hill, and Dee Shook of Virginia; four grandchildren and a great-grand child. Purposes of 'the study were. to provide an understanding oi the problems of crime, the crimi nal, and treatmlent methods as well as considering directions for a .ministry to the offender through supportive church groups Mrs. English gave case histories of three young prisoners, reveal ing conditions leading to the ac tual committing of crimes and a look at offenders after their re lease. Young offenders under 2 released in 1963, made up 65 of the repeaters showing a great challenge to problem of recidi vism. The local problem of tru ancy and other concerns were dis cussed.
