Waldrup, Leake honored By OES Here Monday Miss Aldeen Waldrup, District Deputy Grand Matron of the 20th District; and Mrs. Charlie Leake, Grand Chapter Committee member, both members of Marshall Chapter No. 35, OES, were honored by the chapter at its last meeting of the year held Monday evening in the Masonic Temple. A program was given and each was presented a corsage. Mrs. Elwood Waldrup, retiring worthy matron, gave a report of her year's work and presented a gift to each of her officers. The experience will be slightly different for five students three will teach overseas in international schools in Ixjndon and Paris, one will teach at a private school and the fifth will be in a Virginia public school. Dr. Vernon B. Chapman Jr., director of student teaching, said practice teaching is one of several methods used to give education majors a blend of practicability and theory at Mars Hill. Other methods include an expanded in ternship over one or two semesters, a tutoring program employing majors as tutors to elementary students and group observation of classroom teaching and school system administration. The student teaching ex perience is required by the department for its majors and by the state for teacher cer tification. To Open Bids On Highway Projects The State Highway Com mission announces that bids on various highway projects will be opened this week in Raleigh.
