Some came from as far away as Pennsylvania and Missouri. This event was begun a few years ago by Williard Anderson of Winchester, Tenn., a son of the late Cling Anderson, who had 3 brothers: Jim, Jerome, and John, and a sister, Mrs. Ester Runnkn, who lived here. Mrs. Bertha Anderson, the widow of Jim Anderson was recognized as the oldest member of the group. Grady Worley has returned from a vacation trip to Un tergromback, West Germany. He was accompanied by his wife and daughters, Heidi and Elke, who are remaining there for an extended visit with her mother and other relatives. Mrs. 0. C. Kruschwitz, who had spent the week here with her mother, Mrs. A. E. Carter, left last Saturday to return to her home in El Paso, Tex. Dr. and Mrs. Oscar Carter of Nash ville, Tenn. and Mr and Mrs. Grover Fowler of Gastonia were here also over the weekend of the Fourth for a visit with their mother and Mr. and Mrs. Hal Carter and their visiting sister. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Smith of Pensacola, Fla. are here for a visit with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith & children, Karen Marie, Travis and Kellye Jean. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Tilson of Durham are spending a few weeks here. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Anderson have returned from a two weeks stay in Charlotte. Mr. Anderson had surgery in the hospital there and stayed for a week with his daughter, after his discharge from the hospital. The lorte is made by spreading a mixture of dairy sour cream, whipped sweet cream, and strawberries between lemon flavored sugar cookies. For chocolate fanciers, substitute 1 ounces (3 tablespoons) grated sweet chicolale for the strawberries. The cookies are then stacked in a roll and refrigerated 4 hours while Lhe cookies swell and become cake-like in texture. After the roll is spread with meringue, it's sprinkled with almonds and baked to u golden brown. Then served, cut in diagonal slices. MERINGUE STRAWBERRY TORTE ' cup dairy sour cream 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar teaspoon vanilla extract 'i cup heavy cream, very stiffly beaten V, cup small pieces strawberries 16 Lemon Jumble Rings 2 large egg whites, at room temperature 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice 2 tablespoons slivered blanched almonds Blend together first three in gredients Cently fold in cream and strawberries. Spread cook ies generously with cream mix ture, placing one spread cookie upon another; make three stacks of approximately five. Stand stacks on edge on cookie sheet to make one long roll. Refrigerate 4 hours. Close to serving time, preheat oven to 47 5 F. Beat egg white until soft peaks form ; gradually beat in sugar; add lemon juice and continue beating until moist distinct peak form. Spread meringue over all sur faces of roll. Sprinkle almonds on top. Bake 3 to 4 minute or until delicately browned. Serve immediately. Makes 8 (ap proximately 1-inch) servings.
