GOSNELL ...is the former Miss Marsha Rice Marsha Rice Married To Cline Gosnell Miss Marsha Rice was married to Cline W. Gosnell on Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church, Mars Hill, Rt. 2, by the Rev. J. H. Smith. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hassell Rice of Rt. 2, Mars Hill. Mr. Gosnell is the son of Mrs. Inez Gosnell of Rt. 1, Mars Hill and the late Fred Gosnell. The bride wore a full length dress of taffeta with tiered lace and a long train. Her head piece was elbow length. The church was decorated with an arch, four candle stands, a prayer bench and two baskets of flowers with candles in each window. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Charles Carter, pianist and Mrs. Jeff Garrison sang "I'll Walk With God". Mr. Gosnell is a graduate of Mars Hill High School and is employed with Bi-lo Inc. After a trip through the Smoky Mountains the couple will live at Rt. 1, Mars Hill. Following the ceremony a reception was given at the home of the bride's parents. A shower was given on July 17 at the Mars Hill Community Center by Mrs. Jerry Ferguson, Mrs. Sam Jenkins and Mrs. James Rice in honor of the bride-elect. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edd English Sr. of Mars Hill and Mr. Hamrick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hamrick of Matthews. On Saturday, July 3, Mrs. Lelia Funderburk entertained Miss English with a dinner in her home in Matthews. Also, a shower was given by Mrs. Joe Funderburk and Mrs. Lex Funderburk in Monroe. A luncheon was given on Saturday, July 10, by Mrs. Earnest Gardner and Mrs. R. B. Hamrick in the Barclay Cafeteria in Charlotte. Miss English was presented with gifts of china. Later, Mrs. Boyce Blackburn, Mrs. Fleet Carter, Mrs. L. H. Yandle, Mrs. Fred Funderburk, and Mrs. J. M. Caldwell were hostesses for a miscellaneous shower in the Fellowship Hall of Matthews Baptist Church. On Friday evening, July 30, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Anglin will entertain the wedding party with a dinner in their home in Burnsville. The couple will be married on Saturday, July 31, at 4:30 p.m. in the Laurel United Methodist Church, Mars Hill. JVlary Diercks Attended FHA Meet In Missouri - Mary Elizabeth Diercka of Mart Hill returned last Saturday from Kansas City, Mo., where she attended the National Meeting of Future Homemakers of America at the Muehtebach Hotel, July 12-15. Mary is a member of the Mara Hill High School FHA Chapter and is serving as North Carolina State FHA secretary and District VIII president. She was selected as one of 20 home economics students in this state to attend the meeting. The 1200 delegates at the meeting represented a National FHA membership of over half-a-million. She reports that it was an exciting week packed with workshops, discussion groups, outstanding speakers, fun time, an evening at Kansas City's famous Starlight Theater, and a visit to the Truman Library at Independence, Mo. "The meeting theme was 'Accent on Action: Discovery. Involvement, Growth,' " Mary reported, "and we were given many ideas for accomplishing the objective 'To encourage individuals to discover the satisfactions gained through personal involvement. We heard from leaders in the education field, had panel discussions and audience participation sessions during the four days dealing with such topics as "The Positive Ap proach to Discovery', 'Meaningful Involvement', and Fulfilling Personal Potential.' In small workshops which we called 'Digging Session' we stressed individual growth through personal involvement. Mary also served as one of North Carolina's four voting delegates, and thus had a voice in the election of the 1971-72 National FHA officers. Mary pointed out that one of the best things about the meeting was the opportunity to make a lot of new friends from all across the country. "I met girls from Oregon, Vermont, California, Texas, and even Puerto Rico. And, of course," she added, "being selected as a delegate to attend this meeting was a wonderful experience and a great honor for me. I am grateful for having had this opportunity to represent my Western North Carolina District and Madison County at the national meeting." Mary is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Fred H. Diercks of Mars Hill. MRS. LARR Y MONROE WARREN ...the former Miss Sharon Ruth Greene McDevitt Reunion Well Attended Last Sunday The McDevitt Family Reunion was held Sunday, July 25, at the home of Mrs. Alpha McDevitt of Rt. 6, Marshall. Greene Warren The wedding of Miss Sharon Ruth Greene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hayes Greene and Larry Monroe Warren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Warren, took place Saturday, July 17, at 2 pjn. in the Pole Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Virgil Holloway officiated. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of Chantllly lace and satin with full circular train. Her mantilla was trimmed with matching lace. She carried a bouquet of yellow rose buds centered with a white carnation corsage. Mrs. David Warren, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was matron of honor. Miss Becky Stone and Miss Judy Massie were bridesmaids. All wore gowns of mint green dotted Swiss and carried bouquets of yellow carnations. The bridegroom's father was the best man and ushers were Ricky Plemmons and David Warren, brother of the bridegroom. Miss Beth Greene was flower girl, wearing a dress of yellow voile and carrying a basket of yellow and white daisies. Chip Greene was ring bearer. They are the sister and brother of the bride. A reception followed in the home of the bride's parents with Mrs. Ralph Plemmons, Mrs. J. E. Stone and Mrs. J. B. Brown, assiting. Mrs. James T. Lee, a cousin of the bride, presided at the register. Mr. and Mrs. Warren are 1971 graduates of Enka High School. He is employed by American Enka. The bride is the grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham of Marshall. Phillips-Davies Enement J y&'l MARY ELIZABETH DIERCKS Beta Omega Now Member Of Dist Council Beta Omega Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority is now a member of the nine chapter Upper East Tennessee District Council. The first district meeting was held in Johnson City at the Americana Inn on July 10. Attending the dinner from Marshall were Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Dean Franklin and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rice. Mrs. Rice, who was appointed chaplain of the council, delivered the invocation. Mrs. Franklin, president of Beta Omega, participated in the chartering ceremony of the new council. District meetings will be held each month at various places in the district. Mr. and Mrs. Robert K. Phillips of Marshall, announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Linda Norwood Phillips, to John Grady Davies. The ceremony took place Satur day, July 24, at 2 p.m. in the presence of the immediate families at the Phillips home. The Rev. Robert Busey of ficated. Mrs. Davies wore a full length white garden dress and white rose buds and ivy in her hair. Both Mr. and Mrs. Davies are seniors at UNC-Asheville.
