"In the beginning..,": Starting a new series "Affirmation of our Faith" we turn to the beautifully written Book of Genesis, which describes so eloquently the wonders of Creation, and the richness of this universe in which we live; of God'a eternal plan for man, and of His loving care of man, so graciously bestowed. God the Creator, and God the Sustainer. of the Universe and of His most precious creation man! What glory shall attend His name! Man's relationship with God, alas, is aH too often self centered and-or self-seeking. We petition Him for the things we most sincerely desire, while we all too often ignore the benefits which have ac crued to us through His continuing interest in our well being. ..both spiritual and physical ! What a wonderful world Genesis describes as man's intended God-given inheritance! Man was given domination over the earth ...the fish of the the fowls of the air, all r m atures of the land that "walki tli and creepeth"! Man was -eated in God's image he ,r niven a brain with which to : i-avn . he was given a t ;n -rut choice between good 8" 1 evil ' and the ability to disi uibh between them! His q . -.ting spirit was to be un trammelled as he investigated the wonders which God had wrought, and which He had accrued to man's benefit! But whereas God was purely spiritual, man was not only spiritual, but corporeal; and sin entered into the picture. The war between the spiritual side of man and the earthly flesh is unceasing. Only to the extent to which he turns to God, will he be saved. Man is the keeper, not only of his brother, but of God's creation. He owes undying allegiance to the Creator of all things. He is beholden to stewardship of God's world, of God's gospel. To spread His Word . .that is the goal of responsible Christians everywhere; to keep pure and clean the wonders of the universe the air, the sea, the land. The hitherto unexplored majesty of space has now fallen under man's earthly achievements. It must be treated with reverence, as must all things created by His hands. To do otherwise is to imperil man's survival.. .both spiritual and physical. In our quest for and the conquering of knowledge of God's world, we (like Frankenstein) in danger of creating monster! "Con sumerism" is the basis of man's economy. ..and It may be man's undoing! For in the creation of goods sustained by popular demand, we pollute the air that we breaths, the water we drink, the land off which we live! These very benefits which God bestowed upon us to sustain life, we are transforming into our doom! As adult Christians and citizen's of God's world we are constrained to ask : not what is good for us at this MOMENT in time.. .but what is good for our brothers, yet unborn! For we are, as Christ so eloquently demonstrated when He refrained from eating that food which had been offered in sacrifice, "our brother's keeper".
