Evelyn It tbe daughter of Mrs. (Ma Haynie Burrell of Route 3, Weavervflle. Harry Dale is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Ponder also fo Route 3, Weavervllle. . The church wai decorated with a center arch candelabra consisting of 19 candles, accented with two lS-branch spiral candelabras in the background and two 15 branch tree candelabras on either aide. A single can delabra was placed on each of the front pews. There were two floral arrangements of white glads and mums. A musical program was presented by Mrs. Irene H. Clark, organist, and Mrs. L. B. Laye, Jr., vocalist The wedding was directed by Miss Nell Clinton. The bride, presented in marriage by Charlie Guy Merrill, wore a long Empire gown of satapeau accented with peau d'ange Chantilly lace sprinkled with seed pearls and a Watteau chapel length train. She wore a chapel-length veil of silk illusion edged in matching lace attached to a Camelot cap. She carried a cascade of white roses centered with white orchid on a white lace covered Bible. Mrs. Arthur Hawkins of Asbeville was matron of honor. She wore a long princess gown of pink polyester crepe with a lace overlay on bodice trimmed with seed pearls. Her bead piece was a matching bown of polyester crepe and lace. Bridesmaids were Miss Dolores Griffin of Mars HOI, Mist Marcla Hawkins of Weavervllle, Mrs. Tommy Wheeler of Barnardsville, niece of bridegroom, and Mrs. Richard Kohler of Asbeville. They wore gowns of similar style to that of the honor at tendant in shades of mint green and pink. They carried arm bouquets of long-stem pink roses. Miss Kathy Rice was flower girl and Master Stephen Kohler was ring bearer. Tommy Houston Ponder was bis brother's best man. 'Sliver Jr. of Mars HUL became the bride of Gerald Douglas Waldrup at 7 pjn. Friday, June 28, 1974, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Paul Chaplin con ducted the ceremony. The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of organza trimmed in peau d'ange lace and pearls. A reception followed. The couple will live in Mars Hill. The bridegroom has served In the U. S. Marine Corps and ia presently employed as assistant personnel director at Vanderbilt Shirt Company in Asbeville. He win graduate from Asbeville Buncombe Technical Institute in August with an A.AJS. degree in business administration, and will enter Western Carolina University in the fall to complete his B.S. degree. Pre-nuptial events included a household shower given by Mrs. Lloyd Cassida and tbe ladies at Flat Creek Baptist Church in May. A surprise lingerie shower was given in March by Miss Marcla Hawkins and Mrs. Arthur Hawkins. An Informal dinner was given in honor of the bride and groom at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wheeler on June 23. The couple were honored with a White Bible Service on Sunday morning, June 23 by Mrs. T. J. Gasperson and the young people at which time the bride was presented with a white Bible from tbe members of the church. An informal dinner was held at tbe church im mediately following the rehearsal on June 27 for members of the wedding party. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Kurtz and Mr. D. W. Tbe bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bert Roberts of Alexander. Tbe bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence EDdns of Weaver ville. The bride wore a full length gown of white bridal satin overlaid with white chiffon, trimmed with Alencon lace around the cuffed bell sleeves and high collar of chiffon. Alencon lace appliques were around the scoop satin neck and satin skirt. Her veil and chapel length mantilla of silk illusion were edged with matching Alencon lace and attached to a Juliet cap of satin and lace. She carried a white orchid on a white pearl backed Bible, belonging to her aunt, Mrs. Roy Roberts of Marshall. Mrs. Roberts brought the Bible from Israel. Tbe gown and veil were designed and made by tbe bride and her aunt, Mrs. Floyd Fowler of Marshall. Mrs. Johnny Buchanan of Asbeville was matron of honor and Miss Patty Fisher of Alexander was maid of honor. They wore pink polyester floor length gowns with scoop necklines and empire waists. The short Spanish sleeves were trimmed with pink and white lace. They carried long stemmed pink carnations and wore white picture hats and sandals. Prior to the wedding ceremony a program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Jim Ballard of Weaverville and Miss Fisher. Tbe traditional wedding music and the theme from "Love Story" was used. Miss Fisher sang "Love Faileth Never" and "Our Wedding Prayer." The bride's book was kept by her sister, Mrs. Charles McDevttt of Marshall. Mrs. McDevttt wore a blue street length dress similar to the bridesmaids and a picture bat. Mra. " Following the ceremony a reception was held in the home of the bride's parents. Tbe table was centered with a columned three tiered wed ding cake which was decorated wtu pink and white roses with green leaves. R was flanked by summer flowers. Mrs. Robbie Worley and Mrs. John Henderson, aunts of the bride served the cake. They were assisted by Miss Kathy Ballard of Weaverville and Miss Maxine DeBruhl of Asnevflle. For her wedding trip the bride wore a blue and white dress with white accessories and a white orchid corsage. The bride graduated from North Buncombe High School and recently from Asbeville -Buncombe Technical Institute with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She will be employed by Dr. J. P. Weidemen of Mara HU1 and is a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association. The groom graduated from North Buncombe High School and is presently employed as a block and brick mason. After the honeymoon the couple will be living in Alexander. The bride is a former resident of Rt. 7, Marshall and is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moody Davis and the late Mr. and Mrs. James (Jim) Roberts of Marshall. ceremony.
