RECENTLY MPS. MARIE SMITH-EASTMAN, a
Kindergarten teacher and principal from Liberia,
visited the Mars Hill Day Care Center. She told the
children about her country and what children do
there for fun. She taught them a Liberian game, a
song and talked about schools there. Shown in the
picture with her are, from left to right, Anna Marie
Huffman, Georgina Wilson, Angie Ripley, Lisa
Tyson, Cynthia Willis, Kerrie Wallace, Andy Everett
and Shannon Honeycutt. Robby Berry is on the slide.

WILLARD ANDERSON
Willard Elbert Anderson, 80,
of Rt. 1 Mars Hill, died
Thursday Nov. 20, 1975 in an
Asheville hospital after an
extended illness.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County and a retired
farmer, he was a son of the
late Don and Polly Ray An
derson. Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Flint Morgan with whom
he made his home; two sons,
John Cling Anderson of Mars
Hill and Wayne W. Anderson
of Weaverville; a step
daughter, Mrs. Arthur
Wheeler of Barnardsville; a
foster daughter, Mrs. Frank
Mcintosh of Weaverville; a
stepson, J C. Robinson of
Asheville; three grandsons,
three great-granddaughters
and several nieces and
nephews.
Services were held at 2 p.m.
Sunday at Beech Glen Baptist
Church, of which he was a
member. The Revs. Darl
Amnions, l.yman Rich, E. S.
Morgan and Homer Tom
berlin officiated. Burial was in
Anderson Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank
Mcintosh, Shelby Ray, Oscar
Anderson Jr., Roy Young,
Harold and Bill Metcalf,
Calvin Eatman, Arthur
Wheeler, Terry Williams and
Judson Edwards.
TED R. TWEED
Ted R. Tweed, 77, of Rt. 3
Marshall, died Friday
November 21, 1975, in a Black
Mountain hospital after an
extended illness.
He was a lifelong resident of
Madison County and a retired
farmer.
Surviving are the widow,
Mrs. Lulua Davis Tweed;
three daughters, Mrs. Edith
Varney of Black Mountain,
Mrs. Amalee Cutshall of River
Rouge, Mich., and Mrs.
Roberta Gentry of Asheville;
seven sons, Eaton J. Tweed of
Wichita, Kans., Monroe
Tweed of l.yman, S.C.,
Charles Tweed of Marshall,
Mack Tweed of Candler,
Tracy Tweed of River Rouge,
Carl Tweed of Black Mountain
and Harry Tweed of Valdese;
three brothers, Eugene,
Kermit and Wayne Tweed of
Greenville, Term.; two sisters,
Mrs. Elmer Tweed of Mar
shall and Mrs. Winona
Boswell of Norfolk, Va.; 28
grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren. Services were held at 2:30
p.m. Sunday at Chapel Hill
Baptist Church. The Hev. I).
C. Sullivan officiated Burial
was in Tweed Cemetery.

Glenn, Cline and Sam Phillips
Jr. of Mars Hill; and three
grandchildren.

Wednesday November 19, 1975
in an Asheville hospital after a
short illness.
A native of Mitchell County
and a Madison County
resident most of her life, she
was a daughter of the late Levi
and Martha Willis Grindstaff .
Surviving are the husband,
Jim Cody; a daughter, Mrs.
Annis Franklin of Bessemer
City; five sons, Jack Cody of
Nebo, Carl Cody of Mars Hill,
Clyde and Locke Cody of
Asheville and Clarence Cody
of Sylva; five sisters, Mrs.
Pansy Hensley of Old Fort,
Mrs. Rhonda Hensley and
Mrs. Gertha Cody of Nebo,

Baptist Church, of which she
was a member The Rev.

Burial was in the church
cemetery. Grandsons were
pallbearers.

Herbert England, 81, of the
Indian Creek section, died
Friday, Nov. 21, 1975 in a
Buncombe County VA hospital
after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of
Yancey County, a veteran of
World War I and a retired
farmer and merchant.
