The Rev. Alden G. Angel of
Weaverville, announces the
engagement of his daughter,
Linda Darnell, to Randy Dean
Rice of Mars Hill.
The bride-elect is also the
daughter of the late Mrs. Faye
Angel. The future bridegroom
is the son of Mrs. Juanita Rice
of Mars Hill and the late
Fletcher W.Rice.
An October wedding is

"No parson may be con
sidered for this award unless
first nominated by their own
community club," stated
McGough. "So many men and
women give so much of
themselves in the organised
communities over Western
North Carolina year after year
for the benefit of their neigh
bors that the least we can do is
let them know it is recognised
end appreciated," he con
tinued.
Judging for the award will be
based 75 percent on work at the
local community level and 25
percent on work on a county,
area or state level. Activities
of both the current and past
years will be considered.
Each nominee selected for
the area finals will be
presented a leadership cer
tificate at the annual awards
meeting of the WNC Com
munity Development
Program in December at the
Asheville Civic Center. The
outstanding man and out
standing woman leader named

TIMOTHY BARREN is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Barron.
Route 1, Midway, Tenn. He is a
1976 honor graduate of West
Greene High School and was
nominated to appear in "Who's
Who Among American High
School Students." He enlisted
is the Navy June 9 and plans a
medical career with a
program outlined by the Navy.

Parents of North Carolina
girls, ages 3 to 12, are advised
that the nationally sanctioned
statewide Little American
Miss Pageant will be staged ,
Oct. 1 at the Holiday Inn West
in Asheville under direction of
Mrs. Emogene LeSueur of {
Tennessee.

No talent competition is
involved, and judging is on the
basis of beauty, poise, per
sonality and similar factors.

American Miss national finals
in Lake Charles, La., on Oct.

Four different age divisions
will compete at Asheville, with
a winner and three runners-up
in each division. The four
divisional winners only will
then appear once more before
the judges and one will then be
chosen as the North Carolina
Little American Miss?1976.

James E. Gentry of St.
Gabriels, Calif., and formerly
of Walnut, is recuperating at
Ross-Loos Hospital in Los
Angeles from injuries he
received when he was struck
by a car three weeks ago while
crossing an intersection.
James is the brother of Edna
Gentry Alexander of Route 5,
Marshall.

adorned with Venise lace
motifs. The full skirt and
chapel train featured two rows
of Venise lace and a wide ruffle
encircled both. Her single
fingertip imported silk illusion
veil, encircled with a band of
Venise lace daisies, was at
tached to a Camelot headpiece
trimmed with Venise ap
pliques matching her gown. An
heirloom gold cross worn by
the bride, belonged to her
maternal great-great gran
dmother. Along with her
bouquet of yellow roses, white
daisies and babies' breath, the
bride carried two imported
lace handkerchiefs, one a gift
of the bride's great aunt and
the other, a gift of the
bridegroom's mother.
