IS BOYSGAME REYNOLDS 71-45 The Reynolds Rockets and Madison Patriots were tied up in a close game for two quarters Saturday night at Marshall, but the taller Reynolds players ran away with the game in the second half. The Rockets had beaten Madison 11 days earlier at Reynolds The first half saw both the Patriots and the Rockets playing teoaely and making turnovers. The Patriots were getting good position and rebounding better than was to be expected, however. Madison was behind 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, and continued to trail by four as the score was 33-29, Reynold's favor at halftime. The Patriots were never in the ball game from that point on. Reynold's sticky defense forced Madison turnovers, and the Rocket's hot shooting put the game away. The Patriots managed to hit only 7 of 33 shots from the field in the last half. Todd McCormick was the Patriot's only bright spot for the night as he scored a season high 24 points in the contest. David Hamlin zeroed in for 27 points for the Rockets. RSVNOLDS?MADISON SOYS REYNOLDS <7J) ? Hamlin V, Davit 4. Paynt I, Ben field 2. Towery 6, Sieving 17. Howard 2. Wrlflht 2. Durden 2. Hon ttoyt. Reynolds had outdistanced the Patriots by 43 points in a game on Dec. 7. Coach Karen Dillingham departed from her usual style of free substitutions and used only eight players during the game as she guided the girls to their first victory of the season. The Patriots opened the first half doing everything right. The girls were forcing Reynolds into making tur novers on defense, and were working the ball inside for good shots on offense. Madison jumped out to a 10-3 lead after the first quarter as the Rockets seemed stunned. Reynolds fared little better in the second quarter as the Patriots took a 23-10 lead to the dressing room at halftime. Madison's offense came out uptight in the third quarter, but the defense, led by Beverly Bruce's rebounding, held the went into a four-corner stall with ?:M to go in the fourth quarter. Although they executed it poorly, they salon the cushion they had btalt through the first three quar ters to preserve the win Peggy Rice and Carieae Gunter outscorod the Rockets themselves as Peggy had 13 points and Cariene U points. Lisa Morgan outscorod all her teammates combined as she scored 18 points for the Rockets. ?IRLS REYNOLDS ? ScrOMI 4. not* 1. Ltwis 4. D. Minor I.T MIIMr X Morgan to, Shop* 1 MADISON (IS) ?
