The Family of OTTIE EDMONDS Folk Festival To Salute Musicians A folk festival honoring old time mountain music and the people who play it is scheduled for Aug. 20 in the auditorium at the Asheville Civic Center. To be called the Byard Ray Folk Festival, it is being produced by Betty Sue Johnson who was born in Asheville and now has a cabin at Shelton Laurel. Quentin Ramsey, also from the Laurel area, will be master of ceremonies for the event. Miss Johnson admits that she may be a bit partial to Madison County, but insists that the rich musical heritage of this county and the whole Western North Carolina area deserves to be honored. She says she named the festival for Byard Ray because, "Musicians like Byard deserve the credit for main taining our musical tradition. Think of the thousands of hours he has spent playing the fid dle."
