Science Wysfery?
PROBLEM: Can you guess what will
happen when ink is dropped into a
glass of water?
FINDING OUT: Fill a tall, clear glass with
water. Let it stand until the water is very still. Now
drop one drop of food coloring or ink into the
center of the water. Carefully watch what
happens. A
Leave the glass overnight.
What changes have taken
place? Can you explain what
happened?
CLUE: The ink slowly settles to the bottom because it is
more dense (thick) than water. However, it will gradually
spread throughout the water. (As perfume molecules spread
throughout a room when a bottle of perfume is opened.)
