Hugh Rocky Hemming were
married at 6 p.m. Saturday in
Hopewell Baptiat Church. The
Rev Ralph McDevitt con
ducted the ceremony
The bride is $e daughter of
Mr. and Mr*. Robert Rice of
MR. AND MRS. THERON F. ANGEL of
Mars Hill celebrated their 68th wedding an
niversary May 13. They were married May
14, 1911. They have eight children, Mrs. Len
Chandler, Alline Angel, Summie Angel,
Ralph Angel and Rothy Angel, all of Mars
Hill, and Johnnie Angel, Alden Angel and
Hazel Hyer, all of Weaverville. They have 16
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Michelle Hoyle, cousin of the
bride, was flower girt and
Darren Hall, brother of the
bridegroom, was ringbaarer.
The maid of honor wore a
long yellow shear gown and a
white picture hat. She carried
a nnangiy of yallow and white
daisies with yellow streamers.
The bridesmaids were
dressed in similar attire with
long yellow Swiss gowns hav
ing tiny floral design. The
flower girl wore a long solid
yellow dotted Swiss gown, a
white picture hat and carried
a basket of rose petals.
The bride wore a white satin
gown overlaid with Chantilly
lace, a fingertip veil and car
ried a bouquet of white daisies
and babies' breath, having
white streamers.
The bridegroom had as his
best man his cousin, Van
Brown of Hot Springs.
Doug McDevitt of Walnut
and Dewayne Snelson of Hot
Spring were ushers.
Donna Ward of Marshall,
organist, presented a program
of wedding music prior to the
wedding and played the tradi
tional wedding marches.
Kesha Manow, cousin of the
bride, from Charleston, S.C.,
kept the bride's book.
A reception followed in the
fellowship hall. Those serving
were Paula Roberts, cousin of
the bride; Donna Flemming,
sister of the bridegroom ; Jane
Hoyle, aunt of the bride, all of
Marshall; and Christine
Hayes of Hot Springs.
The cake was baked by
Rhodenia Hollifield, aunt of
the bride from Dandridge,
Tenn.
The bride's gown and those
worn by her attendants were
made by her grandmothers,
Mrs. Zora Rice and Mrs.
Evelyn Hollifield

The bride-elect will graduate
from Cecil's Junior College in

The bridegroom is a
graduate of Catawaba Valley
Technical Institute. He is
employed by Tool Craft of
Morganton. A June 30 wedding
is planned at the Madison
Seminary Baptist Church.

Violet Navy Returns
From Goodwill Tour
A 20-member delegation of
North Carolina Extension
Homemakers, including Miss
R. Violet Navy of Mars Hill,
has just returned from a two
week People- to-People good
will tour in England, the
Netherlands, Italy and
Switzerland.
During the diplomatic
travel program, delegation
members met with local
homemaking leaders in Lon
don, Rome and Geneva.
American Embassy briefings
were held in London, Scheven
ingen, Berne and Geneva.
The purpose of the tour was
to give delegation members
an opportunity to carry
messages of friendship to
their counterparts in Western
Europe. It also allowed them
to visit typical United Nations

related operations to learn
and compare methods and
procedures. The mission was
an official program of People
to-People International, a non
profit, private sector
organization founded in 1956
by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower to promote world
peace through international
understanding.
Highlights of the tour includ
ed a briefing at the Interna
tional Headquarters of the
Associated Country Women of
the World in London ; a visit to
the Rijksmuseum full of Rem
brandts in Amsterdam; a
drive through the Ghianti
country of southern Tuscany;
and visits to the International
Red Cross and World Health
organizations in Geneva.
Miss Navy is a retired home
economics teacher and exten
sion home economist. She is
active in extension
homemakers and other com
munity and county organiza
tions.
