H.H. Buckner
Harrison Henry Buckner,
72, of Route 1, Marshall, died
Aug. 12 at Mission Hospital in
Asheville.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, he was the
son of the late Adolphus and
Isabel Buckner. His widow,
Edna Buckner, preceded him
in death.
Surviving are three sons,
Doyle Buckner and J.D.
Buckner of Marshall and Har
rison Buckner Jr. of
Asheville; one daughter, Mrs.
James Lister of Marshall ,
four brothers, Fred Buckner
of Mooresville and Albert,
Phillip, and Percy Buckner,
all of Marshall; one sister,
Portia Clark of Marshall; 11
grandchildren , and one great
grandchild.
Services were held on Aug.
14 at Bowman Funeral Home.
Officiating were the Rev. Jay
Griffin and the Rev. Ralph
McDevitt,
Burial was in the Buckner
Family Cemetery in Marshall.
R.F. Woods
Robert Fuson Woods, 63, of
Route 5, Marshall, died Aug.
14 in an Asheville hospital
following a brief illness.
A native of Fork Ridge,
Tenn., he was a son of the late
John H. and Harriett Green
Woods. He had been employed
by Chrysler Corp. in Trenton,
Mich., for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mae
Worley Woods; five
daughters, Tina Ramsey and
Shirley Todd of Monroe,
Mich., Ruth Golden of
Coalville, Utah, Barbara
Thomas of Cumberland Gap,
Tenn., and Vickie Woods of
Harrogate, Tenn.; two sons,
Fred and Bill Woods of
Monroe; a stepdaughter,
Dorie Rickman of Southgate,
Mich. ; a sister, Tina Welch of
Monroe; 19 grandchildren and
a great-grandchild.
Services were held at 2 p.m.
Aug. 16 in the chapel of
Bowman Funeral Home. The
Rev. Jack Davis officiated.
Burial was in Bowman-Rector
Cemetery.

Ada Armintha Davis, 67, of
Frisby Branch Street, Mar
shall, died Aug. 14 in an
Asheville hospital after a
short illness.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, she was a
daughter of the late Bascombe
and Dollie Waldrop Davis.
Surviving are a sister, Rob
bie Rector of Marshall.
Services were held at U
a.m. Friday in the chapel of
Bowman Funeral Home. The
Rev. Robert Harris officiated.
Burial was in Station
Cemetery.
Miss Eller
Mae Eller, 67, of Route 1,
Mars Hill, died Aug, 17 in an
Asheville hospital after a brief
illness.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, she was a
daughter of the late R.C. and
Mattie Fisher Eller and a
retired registered nurse.
Surviving are several nieces
and nephews.
Services were held Aug. 19
in Laurel Branch Baptist
Church, of which she was a
member. The Rev. Clifford
Cable and the Rev. Orlando
Hawkins officiated. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Bowman Funeral home was
in charge.

Lewis Calvin Worley, 85, of
Route 7, Marshall, died Aug.
17 in an Asheville hospital
after a long illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m .
Aug. 20 in the North Fork Bap
tist Church.
The Rev. Frank Plemmons
and the Rev. Johnny Marler
officiated. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, he was a
retired farmer and was a son
of the late Dave and Emaline
Caldwell Worley.
Surviving are the wife, Nora
Caldwell Worley; a brother,
Crawford Worley of Marion;
and several nieces and
nephews.
Bowman Funeral Home was

Wayne Payne
Wayne Payne, 72, of Route 7
Marshall died Aug. 14 at his
home after an extended il
lness.
A native of Madison County,
he was a son of the late Bill
and Sally Payne. He was a
retired farmer and brick
mason.
Surviving are his wife, Ada
Rice Payne; two daughters,
Berma Eversque of Birm
ingham, Ala., and Geleen
Roberts of Marshall; two
sons, Bruce Payne of High
Springs, Fla., and Ray Payne
of Marshall; four brothers,
Dewey, Joe and Clay Payne of
Weaverville and Garrison
Payne of Marshall; three
sisters, Hattie Payne of Mar
shall, Elva Tweed of Charlotte
and Faye Bryan of Asheville;
14 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m.

tist Church of which he was a
member and deacon.

officiated. Burial was in
Tillery Cemetery.

he had lived moat of his life in
Buncombe County. A member
of Forks of Ivy Baptist
Church, he was retired from
National Linen Service and
was a son of the late John and
Nancy Ponder Rogers.
Surviving are his wife, Edna
Black Rogers ; four daughters,
Pat Rogers of Ashe voile, Glen
da Rogers of Fletcher, Linda
Banks of Arden and Myra
Hawkins of Troutman; a son,
R.N. Rogers Jr. of Knoxville,
Tenn ; three sisters, Sarah
Edmonds and Virgie
Chambers of Weaverville and
Ruby Reece of Asheville; five
brothers, Herschel, Charlie
and Harold Rogers of
Asheville, Clarence and Boyd
Rogers of Weaverville; and
seven grandchildren.
Services were held at 11
a.m. Aug. 22 in the chapel of
the West Funeral Home. The
Rev. Don Austin and the Rev.
Warren Reece officiated.
Burial was in West Memorial
Park.

"Ade" Buchanan, SO, of
Spruce Pine, died Aug. IS in a
Burnsville hospital after a
long illness.
A son of the late Barney and
Samantha Thomas Buchanan,
he was a pastor of churches in
Mitchell, Avery, Yancey and
Madison counties.
Surviving are his wife,
Edith Presnell Buchanan ; five

Main Street died Aug. 19 in an
Asbeville hospital after an ex
tended illness.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, she was the
daughter of the late Claude
and Adelada Meadows Ball.
She was the wife of C.P.
Lewis, who died December
1978. She was a member of
Bear Creek Church of God.
Surviving are four
daughters, Mona Lee Massey
and Wendell Conner of Mar
shall, Modeen Teague of
Leicester and Loreen Norton
of Henderson ville ; a brother,
Alonro Ball of Marshall; a half
brother, and three half
sisters; eight grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.
