Rings and Money
Every member of the team that
wins the Series gets a World
Series ring and money. How
much is decided by the amount
made on the games. Last year,
each Pittsburgh Pirate got
$28,236.87.
The losers get money, too. Last
year, each Baltimore Oriole got
$22,114.

Stargell
The Most Valuable Player
Willie Stargell, the Pittsburgh
Pirates' popular first baseman,
won the 1979 Most Valuable
Player award for the World
Series. He led all the players in
the Series in runs batted in. He
also drove in the winning run.
As Most Valuable Player, he
won a car from Sports
Magazine. This year the
magazine will not give away a
car.
Instead, it will give the
outstanding player a very
expensive watch and a $5,000
scholarship in his name to the
college of the MVP's choice.

Pitch, Hit and Run Awards
"Pitch, Hit and Run" is a
baseball competition for 8- to 12
year-old boys and girls.
Thousands of players compete
in local contests across the
country. The finals were held in
Cooperstown, New York, the
home of the Baseball Hall of
Fame, on Sept. 27.
This year's awards will be
presented on the field just before
the second game of the World
Series.
One of the 1979 winners in the
Pitch, Hit and Run contest was
the first girl ever to win a
championship. Crystal Fields of
Cumberland, Maryland, was the
'champ in the 11-year-old group.
