with the opening of campaign
offices in Asheville.
Congressman Bill Hendon
opened his re-election head
quarters Sept. 7. The cam
paign headquarters are
located on Merrimon Ave. in
Asheville.
The Democrats were
scheduled to open their head
quarters on the same day, but
postponed the opening due to
the death of Claude DeBruhl,
former Buncombe County
state representative. The
Democrats opened their head
quarters at the Westgate shop
ping center on Saturday after
noon.

Girl Scouts
Attend Camp
Ever wonder where the
money from Girl Scout cookie
sales goes?
Quite a bit of that money
went to sending Girl Scouts to
summer camp this year.
Twenty-five Madison County
scouts attended Camp Pisgah
recently, in part, as a result of
the cookie sales. The 25 girls
who attended represented the
largest group Madison County
has sent to the camp in recent
years.
Camp Pisgah is a resident
Girl Scout camp located near
Brevard. Activities at the
camp include horseback
riding, swimming, boating,
badge work, hiking and
special daily events.
Four scouts received free
trips to the camp as a result of
their cookie sales. Scout
Laura Howell lead all the
county scouts by selling 414
boxes. Vanessa Slagle sold 343
boxes to earn her free trip to
camp. Angela Ramsey, with
327 boxes and Beverly
Cassidy, with 325, also attend
ed camp at no charge. Pam
Reed earned a free trip by
selling more than 325 boxes,
but she was unable to go
because of illness.
Another 20 of the girls atten
ding camp received a discount
because of cookie sales. The
other Madison County Girl
Scouts attending Camp Pisgah
were: Cindy Burda, Sonya
Coates, Jennifer Cody, Julia
Garrison, Jerlene Griffin,
Lisa Jenkins, Wendy Jenkins,
