The public meeting on the project will be held in conjunction with the regular monthly meeting of the town's Board of Aldermen. All Mars Hill residents are urged to attend this special meeting. Marshall Bid Opening, Board Meeting Set The Marshall Board of Aldermen will hold a town meeting on June 2 at 2 p.m. to open bids on the water and sewer project. The board's regular monthly meeting will be held following the bid opening. All Marshall residents are urg ed to attend the meeting. Board Of Education To Meet June 3 The Madison County Board of Education will hold their monthly meeting on June 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Madison County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend. County Commissioners To Meet June 3 The Madison County Board of Commis sioners will hold their regular monthly meeting June 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madison County Cour thouse. The public is invited to attend the meeting. Flea Market Planned The annual flea market, sponsored by the Mars Hill Community Development Club will be held June 3 and 4, at Anderson's red barn, beginning at 8:30. The flea market is for the benefit of the local library and other com munity projects. American Legion Meets The American Legion will meet June 2. A chicken supper will be served starting at 6:30 at Post 317 in Marshall. River Clean-Up Planned The French Broad River clean-up trip will be held June 12. Enjoy whitewater while do ing a community service. All equipment and transportation from meeting points will be provided. Bring your own lunch. Groups and individuals are welcome. Program Citizens in the western part of the state have been invited to attend a multimedia presentation and discussion of the Report of the Commission on the Future of North Carolina which will be held on June S from 2:00 until 4:00 at Lipinsky Auditorium, UNC Asheville. The slide-sound show features 12 projectors and gives a breathtaking, panoramic view of the state and its people. Governor Hunt and Dr. William Friday, president of the NC University System and chairman of the Commission on the Future, will speak and field questions from the au dience^ grades. Following the opening remarks by Principal Frederick Anderson, a pop rhythm stick selection was performed by a group of eighth grade students using the music to "A Fifth of Beethoven." Guest speaker for the occa sion, Dr. Ellison Jenkins, pro fessor of Philosophy and Religion at Mars Hill College, delivered a brief but com prehensive history of citizen ship through ancient times before applying the concept to ?our present day. As Dr. Jenkins concluded his well-received remarks, former Mars Hill School prin cipal Fred Dickerson, for whom the award is named, came forward to address the group and to present the trophies to the 1963 recipients who were chosen by majority vote by their peers. Named as the seventh grade recipient was Kenneth Ander son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick F. Anderson. Kelly Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carter, was honored with the eighth grade trophy. The trophies are spon sored by the Mars Hill Civic Club. Surplus cheese and butter are now being distributed at the Madison County Depart ment of Social Services on Main Street in Marshall. It may be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:% p.m. Monday through Friday. Tjie following people are eligible: (1) Anyone over 60 years of age; (2) Disabled per sons receiving Social Securi ty; (3) Recipients of AFDC, Pood Stamps and medicaid; and (4) Persons whose gross monthly income is at or below 150% of the 1982 non-farm poverty level.
