Obituaries Eugene Buckner Funeral services were held Saturday (or Eugene Buckner who died Aug. 4 in a Madison County nursing home. Mr. Buckner was 88 years old. Services were held in the Kedhill Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Howard \lunsey and Jimmy Buckner iflioiated. Burial was con riucted in the church cemetery. Mr Buckner lived in Madison County throughout his life He was a son of the late J W and Ingelo Davis Burkner and was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, l.ucreta Davis Buckner; three daughters, Velda Massey of Ashevitle, Melva Payne and Clara Massey of Marshall; two sisters, Buelah Baker of Wt iverville and Mae W or ley el Barnardsville; a brother, Ray Buckner of Weaverville, six grandchildren and five meat-grandchildren. George Bowman George E. Bowman, 61, of iii ape vine died Sunday in the Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Baltimore, Md., and a resident of Madison County for the past seven years, he was a son of the late George and Lottie Long Bowman. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Davis Sexton VFW Post No. 317, Marshall. He was owner and operator of Bowman Country Store n Weaverville. Surviving are the wife, Lois Hoessel Bowman; three sons, Charles Bowman of Belle Glade. Fla., Chris Bowman of Marshall and Craig Bowman of the home; three daughters, Cmdy Bowman and Cathy Gooding of Fort Lauderdale, Kla . and Sharon Martin of New Orleans, La ; a brother, William Bowman of Baltimore; and three grand children Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home with the Rev Joe Rice oficiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery. Charles M. Rector Funeral services were held Monday in Columbus, Ga., for I harles M Rector, 61, who died Saturday in a Columbus medical center. Services were held in the chapel of the Stif fler & Hamby Mortuary with the Revs Donald Kea apd A1 Crummpler officiating. Burial was conducted in the Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. Rector was a native of Madison County and had lived in Columbus for the past 33 years Surviving are his wife, Viola Nichols Rector; a daughter, Francis Barnes of Columbus; a son, Robert J. Rector of Col umbus; his mother, Mrs. Frances Rector of Sumter, S.C.; a sister, Amelia Jane Mathis of Sumter and a brother, Willard C. Hilda Potter Hilda Bonham Potter, 54, of Canton, mother of Donna Waldroop of Weaverville, died last week. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bruce Clayton on Thursday in North Canton Baptist Church, and burial was in Henderson cemetery. Mrs. Potter was the wife of Hollie M Potter, who died in 1972. Nellie Crowe Funeral services were held Saturday for Nellie Reece Crowe of Alexander who died Thursday evening in an Asheville health care center. Wiley Grant and Vista Wikfc Reece and the widow of Don Crowe, who died in 1MB. < She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bngman of Marshall and Mrs. Stella Hughey of Alexander, with whom she made her home; seven sons, Troy Crowe of Arden, Clement and Tilson Crowe of Asheville, Edward Crowe of Greeneville, Tenn, Roscoe Crowe of Greenville, S.C., Preston Crowe of Childresberg, Ala. and Jerry Crowe of Petal, NUaa.; one brother, Burnett Reece of Marshall, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Deletha Phillips Funeral services were held Tuesday for Deletha Buckner Phillips of Rt. 1 Mars Hill who died Saturday at the age of 93. Services were held in the Mars Hill Baptist Church, of which ate was a member, with the Rav. Richard Price of ficiating. Burial was coo ducted in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Phillips was a lifelong resident of Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Jake and Ella Gentry Buckner and the widow of the late Edgar Phillips, who died in 1958. Surviving are a son, Roscoe Philips of the home; two sisters, Belva Ramsey and Edna English of Man Hill; four grandchildren, tlx great grandchildren, a foster grand child and a great-great grand child. Conn Crowder Funeral services were held Tuesday for Conn Crowder of Dula Springs Road who died Sunday in an Asbeville hospital at the age of 60. Ser vices were held in the chapel of the Holcombe Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev Denver Styles officiating Burial was conducted in the Fox Creek Church cemetery. Mr. Crowdsr bad lived in Weavervilk for the past la years. He was a son of the late Auburn and Gata Shook Crowder He was a self employed home improvement contractor. J 4-H'ers Attend State Consress Six 4-H Club members from Madison County attended the recent 4-H Congress at North Carolina State University in Raleigh "We had an action-packed week, complete with demonstrations, workshops, dances, tours of the legislature and even a chance to meet Miss North Carolina," the Madison County 4-H'ers reported. Heather Streppa received a runner-up award for bar demonstration in horticulture production, and Randy Riddle was honored for working in the State 4-H safety project. He is a member of the North Carolina Lifesavera Club. Others from Madison Coun ty attending the congreea were Roy Newton, Deirdre Smith, Edwin Cheek and Laura Led ford.
