Walnut School Reunion Set
A Walnut School reunion Is being planned for
Saturday, August 11, 1964, beginning at 3 p.m.
The reunion is not limited to graduates and is
open to anyone who attended Walnut School.
Former teachers and principals are also in
vited.
Plans are being made for an assembly in the
gymnasium at 4 p.m. for a short program and
possibly some entertainment.
A hot dog supper will be held between 5 p.m.
and 6 p.m., sponsored by the Walnut Communi
ty Development Club.
"Since we are unable to send out a letter to
each student or graduate; we will have to de
pend on family and friends to pass the word
along to folks who attended Walnut School,"
said Ernestine Plemmons, one of the
organizers.
Anyone who has ideas or information that will
be of help in planning this reunion are asked to
contact Ernestine Plemmons at 649-3816 or R.J.

weekends.

Plan Benefit Bake Sale
The Madison High School Boosters' Club will
hold a flea market and hake sale beginning at 1?
a.m. Jaly 7 In the parking lot of the Nor
thwestern Bank on the Marshall Bypass. Hund
dreds of Items, none coating more than IS, will
be offered . Proceeds from the sales will be ased
to parchase athletic uniforms for Madison High
teams.
Mars Hill A. A. To Meet
The Thursday night meetings of Alcoholics
Anonymous will be held at the Mars Hill United
Methodist Church beginnning at 8 p.m. Anyone
experiencing a problem with alcohol is invited
to attend. There are no dues or fees charged by
Soil & Water Board Meets
The Madison County Soil and Water Conserva
tion District board will hold its regular monthly
meeting on THursday, June 28 at 4:30 p.m. in
the district office on Main St. in Marshall.

July 4 Celebrations Planned
The annual Wagon Train to Marshall will
begin on Thursday night, June 26 at the Wilbur
Allen (arm near Del Rio, Tenn. The wagon train
will depart the Allen farm on June 29 at 9:30
a .m. and make its way to Max Patch, where the
train will camp for the night on Friday.
On Saturday, the wagon train will leave Max
Patch for Spring Creek and will camp at the
Spring Creek School on Saturday night.
On Sunday, July 1, the wagon train will travel
through the mountains to Doe Branch in the Big
Pine community.
The wagon train will travel to Little Pine on
Monday, July 2 and camp on the Lester Lewis
farm.
On July 3, the wagon train will travel into
Marshall and set up camp on Blannerhassett
Island where they will meet the Marshall
Volunteer Fire Department in a donkey Softball
game.
The wagon train will also take part in the an
nual rodeo on the island sponsored by the fire
fighters. Rodeo competition will be held on both
July 3 and 4.
The July 4 celebration will conclude with a
fireworks display at 9 p.m.
The Mart Hill Lions Club will sponsor a July
4th Celebration at the Man Hill Elementary
School.
The program will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the
presentation of the flag by the Mars Hill
Memorial VFW Post 5483 and the National An
them by Sgt. Walsh.
A gospel singing featuring the Principles and
the Mount Olive Choir will begin at 6:00 p.m.
At 7 p.m., following the singing, the Rev. Dale
Fisher will speak on "The Meaning of July
4th".
At 7:30 p.m., Tom Steward and friends will
entertain with picking and singing selections.
At 8 p.m., country music by Buddy Davis and
Gary Spence along with clogging by the Walnut
Ridge Runners and Bailey Mountain Cloggers.
Fireworks will be presented at 9 p.m. by the
Mara Hill Fire Department.
Bruce Phillips will be the Master of
Ceremonies along with Pat Sams, president of
the Mars Hill Lions Club.
Bring the family, enjoy the program, see an
excellent fireworks program, and eat lots of
barbecue chicken! Everyone welcome.
Weaverville To Host Street Dance July 3
Weaverville will host a street dance Tuesday
night, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. Dancing on Main
Street will be to the music of the Carolina
Cutups. There will be no fireworks display in
the town this year. Instead, Weaverville
residents will join with their neighbors in the
Beech community who are commemorating
their 100th July 4 celebration. See related story
