The real estate developer who
brought the Bi-Lo Shopping
Plaza to Weaverville was back
before the Town Council Mon
day night looking for sugges
tiom for another parcel of
land on Weaver Blvd.
Ethia Hull of Hill-Phillips
Realtors asked the council for
an expression of interest in the
uses for a 10-acre tract of land
on south Weaver Blvd.
Hull told the council that she
has been approached by
several developers interested
in the site. Among the propos
ed uses for the site was a con
dominium project, a shopping
center and an apartment com
pie* Hull told the council that
the developers interested in a
?bopping center and con
dominium complex have since
withdrawn their options on the
property.
Mayor Lawrence Sprinkle
told Hull that she would have
to suggest specific uses for the
property before the council
could consider them. He add
ed that any zoning changes re
quired for developing the pro
perty would have to be ap
proved in advance by the
town's zoning board.
When Hull asked if the town
would consider amending the
present zoning restriction
limiting development to eight
units per acre, the request
failed to meet with approval.
Town manager Larry
Sprinkle told the board that
developments of greater den
sity than the eight per acre
limit would not allow for play
areas for children.
The owner of the Weaver
Blvd. aite, Stanley Buckner,
told the board that he would
deed a right of way to the town
to provide sewer lines to the
property and to homes on
Sherwood Rd. and Pickens
Lane.
Addressing the question of
continued development,
Mayor Sprinkle told the coun
cil, "We're often asked what
we'd like Weaverville to be.
I'll admit that behind my
bouse there's a lot of acres of
nothing but graaa, and I'd like
to kaap it that way."
Earlier in the meeting, the
council heard from Lake
Sipore Drive reaidenta who re
quested that the town pave the
road. Mayor Sprinkle explain
ed that the road ia still under
the jurisdiction of the state
Dept. of Transportation even
though it is within the town
limits.
"We can't spend Powell Bill
money to repair state roads."
Sprinkle said. He instructed
Larry Sprinkle to meet with
DOT district engineer Earl
Mclntire to find out how the
road can be paved.
