who is charged with administering an
efficient program with a minimum of
waste of public funds. For this
reason, current emphasis is on the
prevention of overpayments. ( . ;
If you work, you are urged to take
the time now to assess your work
plans for the year, if possible. You
may compare last year's estimate to
get an idea of the effect your
estimated work will have on your
benefits. If you need help, the nearest
Social Security office will be glad to
help either bv phone or in person.
Another good way to prevent over
payments is to report any change in
earning levels as soon as they occur.
Some people wait until the next earn
ings report is due. Their report of ear
nings results in a discovery of a
significant overpayment caused by
the lower level of earnings estimated
earlier.
The annual earnings limit changes
each year with increases in national
wage levels. In 1964, it was $6,960 for
people age 65 and over and $5,160 fa
people under 65. The earnings limit
does not apply once people reach 70.
In 1965, the earnings limit is $7,320 for
people over 65 and $5,400 for people
under 65.
